to be honest ant i didnt realise it had to be inspected by the referee. i have played on that pitch for a number of years and i know when it is or its not playable. i didnt want the players travelling to the game for nothing. this is why i made the decision and then contacted our fixture secretary who informed the league. thanks for your info and in future i will follow the procedure. as i stated before we had no reason to cancel the game other than the weather - which was obvoiusly backed up by the official who visited the pitch.

The pitch was playable at 1pm....so what happened to it before 2pm?

just giving an honest opinion paul. as ant said an official looked at the pitch and stated he would have called it off anyway. time to get over it! see you saturday morning!

I'm sure Paul can answer for himself but last time I looked he is a qualified official also so would be able to give an expert view on the suitability of the pitch. Does seem strange.
I'm just annoyed because I can't play this weekend.

Ha ha very good Chris! Well if you look at the tables then not too bad. The newly formed 'Buckland 4th team' are looking good. If the face fits I suppose but we try to give everyone an opportunity.

Where there is a question concerning the fitness of a pitch the home Club shall contact a local registered Referee who will take the decision. The Referee undertaking the pitch inspection shall not be directly associated with either of the competing Clubs. Unless otherwise directed by the Competition Secretary inspections should normally be carried out on the day of the match.

Ant, I would've thought all of that is pretty obvious. Given that Rocky is qualified in making such a decision and deemed it playable (and would've given an honest opinion) I find it strange that someone else would've deemed it unplayable. Obviously it's still objective but still strange. It's certainly left us at a slight disadvantage but what can you do hey.
