Why "Sphaira"? We chose the name "Sphaira", from the Greek for "sphere", to represent a community where all points are equidistant from the center. Everyone is equal.
Traditionally, many groups with egalitatiran philosophies describe themselves as "circles": pagan gatherings, the Knights of the Round Table, circles of friends. But circles are two-dimensional, and we live in a three-dimensional world. A sphere is three-dimensional, one step up from a circle. We felt that better exemplified the concept of egalitatianism in the modern world.
As for using Greek, we thought it sounded neat.
It is our hope that the concept of the sphere will appeal to you as well.
