Beer!

 emoticon

Let's continue the beer talk here, and free lavender's intro from all the heavy malt, barley and things.

So, anyone here ever had wheat beer?

Edit: I changed the question mark in the title to an exclamation point. Seemed more appropriate. emoticon

SPAWN OF THE VAT OF DEATH!!!

Come away, oh human child!

*looks around at confused faces*

Oh. Well, I was just saying...see...I have a friend at college who has siliacs, so she's allergic to all wheat and glutton products. So we call wheat beer (and most beer, actually) "spawn of the vat of death"

I suppose that's appropriate in that situation. It's a kind of beer that's sold more often in the South of Germany, while you can still get the more traditional barley variety there as well.

I would say that it tastes quite different, too.

Re: Beer!

Some of the labels on beers are so neat. I have yet to try a 'Bad Frog Beer' has anyone here tried it??
My Stepson brought over some beer called Skullers IPA was good and the label has a skull on it cool label.
Heck I even bought a beer that was labeled Rattlesnake Beer. Never tried it but I have the bottle on my shelf.
I would love to make beer one day but I have so much to do now I thin winter would be a better time to make beer. I am not sure when it is the best time to make it.

Beer??? emoticon EWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I can't stand the stuff! Tastes like old, wet, stale crackers to me LOL.
Now, gimme a good mixed drink, or some good flavored moonshine, and I'm there!!

Re: Beer!

The best wheat beer I've had was Erbinger Weizen on draft in Mainz, a little restaraunt run by some nice old guy whose only English was "Food OK?". He was rather pleased when I replied "auf Deutch", instead of in English. (that was back when I could speak and dream in German) The little green bean ontop of the pork fritter as garninsh turned out to be a very hot pepper. What a surprize. I haven't had a good wheat beer in the US, although a close one is a Rye beer called Sunrye by RedHook Brewing.

I BREATHE NEW LIIIIIFE INTO THIS DEAD THREAD!!! Because good liquor is tasty.

I think one of the most intriguing experiences I've had in the past year happened in a pub in Fort Collins, CO. They were serving an ale (yeah I know, not exactly beer...) that was flavored with chili peppers. It sounds repulsive and flamey, but it was actually very delicious and intriguing how the pepper taste (they downplayed the initial spiciness) mixed with the ale. Definitely a favorite, but also a favorite to be taken in small doses unless you have a cast iron stomach - it gets hot down there! The sample cup was more than enough for me...

Other than that, I most appreciate the beers you can serve with a knife and fork. BUT - I would unabashedly give up any beer I've ever had for a good cuppa gin. Neat.

I'm gross. :B

Haha, I wouldn't say gross... emoticon

I still don't like beer...Haven't been able to try much, though, but what I have tried I'll agree with Saijen's descritption of wet, stale crackers.

I have some gin...that I don't like. Though, I have a very cheap bottle, so I imagine some better stuff might taste better. emoticon

I'm a rum person myself. Bacardi, Cap'n Morgan... Mmm. emoticon

Some beer is okay.

Homebrew is often far far better.

And hard cider is best of all. emoticon

Ya, my friends at college just spent a term in London where they had hard cider all the time. Strongbow too, though they say the U.S. import version isn't as good. (I liked it, though.) emoticon
