New "Underworld" Prequel due later this month
Rhona Mitra ("Doomsday") takes over the sci-fi franchise from Kate Beckinsdale, playing a new character, and carrying a big sword around in "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans". It's scheduled for release on January 23rd.
The back story we were told repeatedly in the first two movies (and even shown, in flashbacks) is finally its own movie, as Lycan/werewolf Lucian (Michael Sheen) and his vampire lover Sonja (Mitra) lead a Lycan uprising against their vampire overlords, including vampire Bill Nighy, playing himself. (Not really.) Now, Nighy is always good, and Mitra was awesome in 'Doomsday', but was this movie really necessary? Why not a Doomsday 2?
