The Pencil
The Pencil
classification: paulian
(behind the scenes image provided by Jess)
(behind the scenes image provided by Jess)
(behind the scenes image provided by Jess)
(collection of Mr. Liver)
The Pencil is mentioned when Wally Jabrowski is explaining the objects to Joe Miller at the beginning of The Key and The Clock. It is shown partially on the Sood’s computer in The Eye and the Prime Object when Joe Miller and Howard (The Weasel) Montague visit The Sood with the picture of Eddie and Mabel.
When the pencil is tapped on a hard object, a single 1961 penny appears from mid air.
Knowledge of the pencil comes from two sources: The Sood’s inventory and images provided by Jess (ABQPROPGUY). It is a generic yellow pencil with a silver ferrule. No manufacturer is indicated. Bobby Truby of Brand Name Pencils describes it as a “Quazi Brand”. The tip appears to have been hand sharpened with a knife. It is imprinted with U.S.A, followed by a circled number 2.

Re: The Pencil
Spike, I'm pretty sure that you can tap it anywhere and a penny will fall out.

Re: The Pencil
You are right that we do not know where or how it has to be tapped. I made the change.

Re: The Pencil
Other pencils from that same batch appear on various desks in Jess's photos. Strange thing about that shot showing the pencil resting on a penny, maybe that's how it got its related power.

Re: The Pencil
It's been a while since I used an american Number 2 pencil... (Not since grade school in NJ decades ago) but if I remember right, the little black mark near the eraser end would be a "2" in a Black circle. Correct?
So I should be looking for a....
Yellow Wooden Number 2 Pencil with:
Silver Band (Not gold, which is standard in the UK)
Pink Eraser
And a Black Circle 2 imprinted on it.
I'm assuming all other small minor writing is trivial, and the less the better. But the Black Circle 2 is a must.

Re: The Pencil
That is what I am looking for. I thought I had found it, but I realized the ferule on the one I found is goldish colored.
We didn’t have such a good idea what the pencil looked like until Jess donated these new images. It is relatively new information.

Re: The Pencil
Try looking up Item number: 350095110448 on ebay right now. That's what I'm going with. I'll post pics once they arrive. But since I paid for regular shipping from the states, that might be a while.

Re: The Pencil
That pencil seems too yellow. You want something more orange/gold. However, I would just sand off all the paint except the circle with the 2 and repaint it. Then it will be perfect.

Re: The Pencil
Very good point.
I was so hung up on just trying to find a Number 2 pencil that was available to the UK without spending a car payment. Forgot about the simple things like colour.
