The Shinola shoe polish bottle appears in The Eye and the Prime Object. It is briefly visible in one of the clear cylinders when Joe Miller and Karl Kreutzfeld enter the vault. It is also briefly visible on the Sood’s computer when Joe Miller and Howard (The Weasel) Montague visit the Sood with the Photo of Eddie and Mabel.

The powers of the shoe polish, if they exist, are completely unknown.

The Shinola bottle is a classic design with a corrugated funnel shaped upper and a cylindrical lower. The cap is red on the top and black on the sides. The label reads Shinola, Dress Parade, Brown Stain. The bottle is full of brown shoe polish.

Useful eBay search terms:

shinola

Only one bottle has been found that has the correct configuration as well as the correct label. Most collectors have settled for a bottle with the correct configuration and a different label, then changed the label.

An excellent facsimile of the label has been painstakingly recreated by Chucklbunny:

The bottle may contain the wrong colored fluid or deposited residue and require considerable cleaning. This can be done with water and sand or with Goof Off. First clean the bottle thoroughly. Then add the appropriately colored brown shoe polish. Brown shoe polish can be obtained almost anywhere. Then apply the new label.

Information about Shinola bottles

I believe the the SM Bixby Company was manufacturing Shinola out of two locations New York and Indianapolis. The New York bottles have a 'B' Brockway Machine Bottle Company PA. and the 'F' is Fairmount Glass Works Indianapolis. So same product [dress parade] same year 1954 [found an ad] different bottles. Note image the bottle is missing a number of rings. So 'F' good 'B' bad!
