The Bible appears in The Key and the Clock when Joe Miller and Howard (The Weasel) Montague break into Karl Kreutzfeld’s study. Upon seeing it in its glass display case, the Weasel comments that it is a “dormant” object with unknown powers.

The powers of the Bible, if they exist, are completely unknown.

The Bible is covered in pliable black leather with the words HOLY BIBLE written in all caps to the upper left of the front. The pages are edged in a light color: gold, cream, or plain white. The dimensions of the bible are approximately 6 ½ inches by 9 ½ inches (16.5 cm by 24 cm).

Useful eBay search terms:

vintage bible
collins bible
cambridge bible

Many bibles have been found, and some that appear, superficially, to be identical to the bible in the miniseries. If you find a bible that looks right to you, that is the best you can hope for (unless more information becomes available). Be careful to match the print on the front. Make sure the lettering is in all caps and is in the right position. Verify that the edging is a light color and not red.

Re: The Bible

I discovered a way to get a good measurement on the bible. The clock can be measured exactly. In Jess’s images of Room 10, the clock is sitting on an end table and the bible is sitting on an identical end table:

I superimposed the images so that the front corners of the tables and the bases of the posts matched exactly:

Then, I used the clock to create a measurement tool that could be moved around on the drawing. I copied it and slid it around so that two of the measurement tools touched the ends of the bible. I was able to determine the exact percentage of overlap of the two tools:

I used this to determine an exact measurement for a diagonal on the bible.

I cut the bible out and laid if over a scan of a bible that, presumably, had the same proportions:

I used this to determine the dimensions of the bible. The exact dimensions of the bible turned out to be 170 mm by 245 mm, or about 6.7 inches by 9.6 inches. I would give these a margin of error of about +/- 5 mm.
