The Wedding Photo
The Wedding Photo
classification: paulian
The Wedding Photo appears in The Eye and the Prime Object. When Joe miller and Wally Jabrowski question Mabel Smith, Eddie’s presumptive wife, she shares a mysterious photograph of her and Eddie McCleister. Ultimately, Mabel turns The Wedding Photo over to Joe.
The powers of The Wedding Photo, if they exist, are completely unknown.
The Wedding Photo is a glossy, 5” x 7” (13 cm x 18 cm), black and white photograph of a young woman and a young man sitting at a table in formal attire. The young woman is meant to represent the young Mabel Smith and the young man is meant to represent Eddie McCleister. On the back of The Wedding Photo are the words “Summer 1959”, apparently written in Mabel’s handwriting.
There are two major problems with The Wedding Photo. While the inscription on the back says “Summer 1959” the couple on the front is clearly sitting in front of a Christmas tree with a Christmas ornament hanging prominently between them. Another problem is that the man in the image does not look like Tim Guinee (Eddie McCleister). We have learned from Steve (gfxguy), one of the graphic effects artists who worked on the show, that The Wedding Photo was hurriedly made by photoshopping Tim Guinee’s face into a vintage photograph. Steve explained that the photograph was never meant to withstand the intense scrutiny it has received. There is one minor problem with The Wedding Photo. Neither the woman nor the man are wearing a wedding ring on their ring finger. Possibly, this is a result of the photograph being reversed. There is no decisive evidence that the photograph of the young man and woman is actually from a wedding. The couple could merely be dressed in formal attire for a Christmas gathering.
The Wedding Photo is available for print here.

Re: The Wedding Photo
I started to do this once before, but was never satisfied with the results. I will give it another shot.

Re: The Wedding Photo
When things like this happen, is the fun trying to figure out what the makers of the show were thinking or, if it was just a flub, coming up with an explanation that incorporates the flub?
Like, to me, I would think that the pic was from X-mas '58 and they didn't get it developed until Summer of '59 and Mabel just whipped through them all writing down when she got the physical photos.
But if that's now how you roll I'll just get my coat and back out quietly.

Re: The Wedding Photo
All theories are welcome. Your explanation is certainly plausible.

How very Akums Razor of you. I'd buy that explanation.

Re: The Wedding Photo
Same here, works for me. My uncle and father both would keep a roll of film in their cameras for months until they'd shot the last photos. When they finally got round to developing them there'd always be a mix of seasons.

I am overwhelmed by the response from everyone. Thank you so much for all your warm welcomes!
I was doing a search for the movie poster and stumbled across your "collectors blog". What a fun site!
You all had me so psyched about the show again that I watched the DVD this weekend with my daughter (she makes a small cameo during Isaac's party scene).
I am currently working on an AMC / Sony series called "Breaking Bad", so I'm pretty slammed, but I will be dropping in to answer as many questions as possible.
Spikosauropod - Honestly, I don't think we really thought out the season of the photo. It was created from old pictures of the actors merged with an old picture I had that featured a couple sitting in front of a tree. (At the time you're doing these things you don't realize they're going to be analyzed it such detail LOL!)
I will find out from Ben why the book is stamped Santa Fe public library.
paulv70 - you can email me a mailing address at [email protected]. I'll get the PC out this week.
