posticon Alien - Survivors Guide ( Multiplayer )

AVP2 has to be my fav FPS game by far, I've had it many years and tried my hand at both the other races. But... none compare to the sheer thrill that playing the Alien gives you. They are fast and incredibly deadly up close, the downside is that they cant take a great deal of punishment.

Playing the single player game is quite different from multiplayer, MP is much much tougher. So heres a guide to the strategies needed to successfully survive multiplayer and rack up a decent kill count.

A comparably low Frag Count for me since developing these tactics - [Talon] - Necridian.

The first thing you need to bare in mind is those pesky Marines with Sniper Rifles ( AKA Noob Cannons ). There is an exploit/glitch where they can rapid fire the damn thing.
Facing a Noob Cannon armed Marine face on is suicide, NEVER run straight at them even if your climbing the walls, they WILL kill you.
It only takes one shot from those things to put you down.

Many servers ban the use of tracking weapons like the Smart Gun and Predator Disk, but dont count on them not being used.
Althought these weapons can lock on you, if you keep moving then you can survive without losing much health if you get to cover ASAP.
The Predator Disk isnt much of a problem and easily avoided if your faced with one coming at you.
Even thought the damn thing can cut you in half, simply jumping or sidestepping just before it hits will avoid a nasty suprise.
Theres a nack to dodging tracking weapons, but once your fluent with the movement controls, you'll find you can avoid them by instinct.

Many players will compain if you "Camp" but doing so is one of the tactics a good Alien Player will use, the skill is judging just how long to remain hidden and motionless in dark places before its classed as "camping".
While your motionless, Marine Players cant pin down your position. If your not on their tracker then they wont be actively hunting you. Use this to your advantage by utilising the dark or shadowed areas of the map.
I've had marines walk right past me several times, that when you spring out and relieve them of their cranial filling.

Predators are a little trickier due to thier vision modes. However, you should watch carefully at who the predator player is hunting currently. If they are busy fighting Marines, then thier vison mode will be unable to pick you up and you can pounce on them quite easily.
Watching carefully is key to a good massacre.

It is entirely possible for an Alien Player to slice right through at least 3 predator players one after the other without taking a single hit, I know cause I done it.
Your attack style will develop over time, but you have to remember, NEVER STAY STILL.
You'll probably start by standing still while your attacking another player, sometimes it'll work, sometimes you'll regret it.

A successful attack depends on 2 things, hitting your opponent and not getting hit by your opponent.
This is easier than it sounds.
Think fast, move fast, dont go for a headshot unless your opponent is stunned or he's standing still right under you ( eg, you sneaked up behind along the cieling )
Going for headshots wastes valuable nanoseconds while you line up the crosshairs. You'll find many times that headshots occur by chance in the heat of a battle.

For the actual attack, dealing with both Predators and Marines are pretty much the same.
This is the attack style I use, but different players prefer different methods.
Begin by pouncing at your opponent if possible with the intention of stunning them. The best places to pounce from are walls or cielings, sometimes you can just sit there while the walk right under you, and you can just jump right on thier head.
If you can pounce at them, or your pounce missed, get your tail attack ready instead... dont bother with swiping or biting untill your opponent is stunned.

Sometimes, depending on the situation, or if you up against a noob, you can pretty much claw the hell out of the opponent and still walk away without a scratch.

Once the opponent is stunned... hold down the claw attack button and walk in circles around the poor sod. Keep moving around and around untill he or she is well and truly dead.
With luck, you can kill them off before the stun wears off.
Bare in mind they can still fight back while stunned, ONLY the crosshairs move much slower so you must keep moving behind and around..oh, and try to avoid attacking thier frontal area of they could well put you down instead ( especially predators with combi sticks. )

Sometimes, it pays to attack and run, wearing down a small piece of the opponents health at a time. This is the case when they have nearby friends on the same team. And Alien going up against more than one opponent will find it tough to survive the initial attack.
Pounce, swipe, run.... then work your way around the map to attack from a different angle.
If you find any Health packs of weapons, destroy them to deprive the enemy of their use.

On some servers "friendly Fire" is enabled, if this is the case, the Alien Player has a huge advantage when taking out groups or squads of opponents... try to target players that block the "Line of Sight" of thier own team mates. If they kill one of thier own, they loose Team Points... and get a hell of a grilling about it lol

Next to the Noob Cannon, the Chain Gun is the worst Alien Killer. It will take you down before you know it. Never directly attack these Marines.
A good strategy for Aliens when faced with any Player armed with heavy weapons is to bolt when you see them!
They want to kill you so much they cant resist chasing after you...
So, what you do is, climb up the cieling into any available duct or niche and wait for them to come wandering by, then drop after they passed and you'll kill them before they can even respond ( remember to Stun before you attack to slow the rate they can turn around )

Another trick the opponent will use is rapidly tapping the jump button to dodge and avoid your attacks. If you know you've been seen and are commited to an attack, the opponent will more than likely jump out of your direction of travel.
What you need to do is guess where they are going to go, line up and pounce, if your lucky, they'll jump right into you!

If you have predators on the map, and they are shooting the netgun like crazy, get an easy kill by wiping out any marines that get netted. This'll piss the Predator right off and he will more than likely come after you for it. So run and set up your ambush emoticon

Even a pistol can really do some damage, especially those AP round.. a headshot will kill you instant.
Use the pounce often, even if its just to move around the map, this will confuse your opponents ( they can hear you pouncing for a large distance ) they wont know when they are being attacked untill its too late.

You will inevitibly find yourself cornered, or facing a well armed opponent head on with nowhere to run. When this happens, your only option is to fight your way out.
This isnt as difficult as it may seem however, so if your forced to face the enemy one to one then you need to be sneaky.

Dont pounce right away, they expect you to do that and will be aiming for your mid-pounce position and will take you down before you get half way.
What you need to do is run ahead but randomly strafe left and right while holding down the wall-walk key. You might find yourself possibly doing a spiral manouver toward the enemy ( this will make you dizzy, and its tough to attack while disorientated ).
So, zig-zag and spiral your way toward the enemy, and only when your close enough to garantee a direct hit, pounce and attack while running around behind.

In some of the more difficult attack manouvers you can pass right over the head of the opponent and tail strike to stun them ( really tough to do, you need a dead on shot and sometimes the tail can kill them outright ) then drop down behind and commence tearing them to pieces.

A fun thing to do is challenge "Hardcore" Predator players to one-on-one fights ( you may need to find a Predator Clan server for this )
The Predator will either use the Combi-Stick or the standard wristblades. Doesnt matter what they chose, all but the very best of the best players will be toast.

As soon as the fight begins, all Predators expect you to pounce at them... dont, they are already holding the attack button down and will kill you the moment you get close enough.
Hold down the tail attack button to keep it charged up and ready, you WILL need to stun the Predator before you can attack him successfully.
What you need to do is confuse them, walk a step forward, then back, then side, then back... basically, do a dance.
They start to get nervous and initiate the attack instead, they will do the high-jump and try to crack the stick over your head.
The second they jump you pounce....timing is critical.
If done right, you'll have basically swapped position in the "Arena".
Now, this is where you have to be quick, because you have the advantage of initiative ( he hasnt turned around to face you yet, too busy going "huh!!??", the second you land, turn around and if possible pounce again right into the arse of the Predator and finish it off with a few swipes or a headshot.
If you cant pounce yet, run like hell toward him and tailstrike.
If the predator has turned to face you before you get close enough, stop your attack and do the dance again.

Right then, thats covered all the main points, so to summarise I'll list the most important points an Alien Player should never forget emoticon

1 : Resist the urge to charge at the opponent unless you have no choice. An Alien is a stealthy killing machine NOT an unstopable tank. Aliens die very easy.

2 : Dont attack an opponent unless it is stunned first, and only attack when you are at the side or behind. If your in a group of Alien teammates its possible you can rush the enemy but casualties will be high for your side.

3 : If your trapped face on against an opponent, start doing the dance to create as much confusion as possible. Or spiral and strafe your way toward him/her. If your up against a Predator try to avoid attacking its frontal position, pounce or tailstrike the side or rear.

4 : Use pounce as often as possible, its far easier to use for defence than offence. Pouncing will get you out of trouble with minimal damage

5 : Use ambush tactics, dont be affraid to "lure" the enemy into your trap but watch out for Sniper Rifles and Chain Guns ( grenades can be a pain too ). If you got a heavy weapon pointed in your direction, run like hell. Try to set up an ambush or work your way around the map to attack from behind.

6 : If your involved in an "Honour" duel with a predator, always wait for the predator to make the first move. Do the dance and make "Fake" attacks to make then nervous enough to initiate an attack.
In some cases you can do the same thing in a standard team deathmatch game.

7 : A stunned opponent is a dead opponent! Take every opportunity you can to take advantage of this.

8 : Dont be affraid to run away, this can also be used to lure the enemy into ambush locations. Display yourself deliberately for a fraction of a second but dont wait around to see if they noticed you or you will take rounds, or worse.

9 : Pick off the injured, watch your team mates, if they got killed while attacking the enemy, follow up the attack, chances are the opponent is extremely low on health and a single pounce will kill them outright.
