posticon Rules and Guidelines

"What is this all about?" you may be wondering.
Well, its basically a continuation of the "realtime" roleplay events held ingame.

"But we already have the roleplay forums!" you might be saying.
Well, this is very much different.
Unlike the roleplay forums where it is required that a fairly long, descriptive post be given, and the locations and events are "assumed". This "interactive story" allows posts of any length and locations must be travelled to via interconnecting areas of London.
Add to that the ability for a Storyteller to insert events within specific areas, and its then your choice to make your way there if you feel like dealing with the challenge.

The Interactive Story elements allow more flexibility and Storyteller Control than a typical RP forum. Also it is especially useful for those people unable to attend Ingame events to still interract with with the CKWoD and those characters in it.

Read the following posts for more specific rules and guidelines.

Re: Rules and Guidelines

From now on, the Interactive Story will be abbreviated as CKIS.

The Elements of CKIS

Timeline
The timeline and timeframe followed the Modern Era and takes place during any "Out of Game" time. For example, many ingame events take only a few hours of the night and many sessions end with individual characters leaving the group to take on "assumed" activities.

Travel
This is where one of the unique elements of the CKIS lies. Unlike the usual RP forum, travel between areas of London must be stated/defined more clearly.
This isnt as complicated as it sounds and with this based on the ingame Hells Gate London map, those of you already familiar with it wont have problems getting around.
Rules regarding moving around the map will be given indepth in the following posts.

Story Teller
Another unique elements of the CKIS, events dont always take place within the area where the characters are.
The current ST usually has the responsibility of posting "Event Notices" in much the same way as ingame events are engineered in logical ways. In all cases the ST has total and absolute control over events and event resolutions.
These events are usually heard about via the Nosferatu Network, local rumour or Spies/Agents so there is plausibility to Characters knowing/Hearing about these events, so by a players own choice can investigate.

Hostile events are usually resolved by the ST. This ST's decision is based on how well the characters work together to deal with the event. Clever and unusual actions are taken into account in this resolution.
So, in effect, success depends on teamwork and imagination, as well as logic and plausibility.
For example, a group of Tzimisce hold a Mortal hostage. If an individual character attempts the rescue, there is a high chance of failure. If the group work together, and use clever tactics, or eliminate the Tzimice with much planning and careful thought then there would be a high chance of success.
In all cases where a challenging event takes place, the ST has final word.

Map Locations
If you are familiar with the Hells Gate London map ingame, then you'll notice that the CKIS is split into similar areas. Some have not been included however, but areas can be added when required. Sometimes an ST may add a specific "Mission Location" temporarily, this will be removed when the event is concluded.

A character can only occupy one map location at any time, but can travel freely to any interconnecting area. The connecting areas are given at the first post on the area's thread.
Vehicles are not yet covered in the rules, but may be included in future, these will generally allow shortcuts to map areas but will have specific rules regarding their use.

More specific rules are given in following posts :

Rules of Posting

Heres a quick rundown of the rules, I'll go into detail following this list :

1 : Your first post can begin at any location, but you must have a logical reason for being there.

2 : Your post must be of reasonable length and logical to the place your character occupies. However there is no minimum length, but there is a maximum limit.

3 : You must post transitions. This means that you must post your character travelling through, or to another map area.

4 : You MUST end your post with where your character is travelling to if your character leaves a specific map area. Likewise you must start a post with where your character arrived from.

5 : Finally, all the standard RP rules that apply for live RP games also apply here.

<------------------>

Ok, time to clarify on the above rules a little.

Your First Post :
This isnt really too restrictive, it just means you can begin at any public map area, or a Haven where you would likely be a guest, or your own Haven.
You cant begin somewhere where you would know it to be the lair or Haven of someone hostile to your character.
For example, you can begin at a local bar or in the street, you cannot begin in a Tzimisce infested area unless your character is Sabbat.
To make it simple, it might be best to begin at Club Tenebrae if you unsure where to place your first, or "Game Entry Post"

Post Length limits :
A post can be up to 1000 characters long, that is the maximum length of each possible post. This is the maximum limit, you are not permitted to run into two or more posts for a single event ( as a guide, try not to allow 2 post next to each other, give another player/ST a chance to post before you follow up with another ). If you find your post is too long to fit onto an individual post then you will need to shorten it.
There is no minimum limit, but it is asked that you do not waste a post by posting something like "Drinks a bottle of Vitae then look around", etc. Please make them of reasonable length to make it worth reading.
The exception to this is when your posting a transition.

Transitions :
A transition is when your character moves from one map area to another. Or from one map area, through another untill your character arrives at a destination several map areas away.
When posting a transition, you can briefly explain your characters actions and attitude as you pass through or arrive.
A transition can be as short or as long as you wish, but must contain the information about where you character has arrived from, and where your character is headed to, should your character continue to another map area.
The actual transition information can be stated as "OOC" text. For example :

[My_Character arrives from Map_location_Name]

Your post content

[My_Character leaves toward Map_location_Name]

In all cases a transition must begin with where you character arrives from, and end with where you character is headed to should your character continue travelling.

Re: Rules and Guidelines

Character Interraction

Character Interraction is a fancy term for having your character do anything that involves talking to, or attacking another character or "Game Object" such as a locked door.

When your post includes any kind of interraction, you can consider the end of your current post as "game turn finished". What this means is you can no longer post again untill the interraction is replied to, or resolved.

For example, your character ask another character a question somewhere in your post. You cannot post again untill your question is answered. However, you can choose to not wait around for the question to be answered if you wish.
It would be likely that your character performs more than one interraction within a single post.

In cases where you must wait for a resolution before you can continue, there will be no backing out. This most commonly applies to hostile situations.
For example, your character fires a gun at someone....
You will HAVE TO wait intill the ST informs you of the result of this, before you can continue with another post.

It would be a little easier to think of the CKIS as having "turns"....
You can post as many times as you wish untill you do something where you need an answer from another player or the ST.
As soon as you need an answer, its your turn finished untill you get the answer.
