Having probs with Vamp? post your troubles here and someone may be able to help you.
Please check previous posts before posting to see if your problem has already been solved.

If your new to vamp, then the first problem you might face is actually creating an account. Vamps built in account thing doesnt work... You can get the Flipside Account wizard from our files page under the "Utilities" section.

If you need a user account to play vamp online in multiplayer, then please take note...

The program by Sierra to create an account will NO LONGER WORK. Read full details of how you can now get a user account here:

http://hometown.aol.co.uk/vampireratz/accountdonation.html

Hope this helps

Re: Troubleshooting

So, you managed to create an account or aquired a donated account but still have a problem....

WON does have a few quirks that may lead to confusion, hopefully this should answer some questions :

1 : WON says you require a patch when you are already patched to version 1.1

Ignore this, we all see it. Pretend it isnt there.

2 : WON says the game supports up to 4 players per game

Ignore this also, you can have 8 players max.

3 : You have problems logging into peoples games and get an error something like "Unable to connect, game may have ended or network problems exist"

Theres a couple of reasons for this, if you have a firewall then either disable it or open the following port number :

27960 for both UDP and TCP

and Get used to logging out then in again, or joining another room and then join back to your original room. Sometimes when your in a room and a game opens, you will be unable to join unless you either re-log, or room hop. Once you get the hang of this it will become second nature.

4 : Make sure the host has the skin your using, and you have the map the host is using.

5 : You re-logged ( or got disconnected somehow ) and the room you were in has dissapeared!

Yes, this is the most annoying thing about WON... Rooms Ghost frequently. Either wait around to see if someone remakes the room, or contact one of the people you were in the game with and let them know. Theres not a lot anyone can do about preventing ghosting.

6 : The room is there but this time the game is gone!

See above, games ghost just like rooms do. Other than remaking the game, theres nothing anyone can do to prevent it.

Re: Troubleshooting

Hey CK! Well, I tried going into the game that Demi told me was at 8 and I couldn't get in. I don't really know what the problem is. I downloaded quite a bit of stuff from the site and still nothing. Get back at me with this so I can join you guys in some good ol' RP, if I am welcomed by all.

I'm also having trouble with that skinswitch thing... I'm not too good with that kind of stuff, but I'm trying to learn.

Re: Troubleshooting

Can you let us know what any error messages you may have got while trying to connect. Also, are you trying to use one of the skins?

It might be simply down to the host not having the skin your using, none of us really have all the files available due to Vamps limitations to do with custom content.

For a more technical based troubleshooting ( routers, port forwarding, etc ) I'd recommend checking out the forum on Rainmoons Emod site ( available via our links page ) you might be able to find further help there.

As for skinswitch, yeah, it can be a pain to try figure out, any kind of resourse editing can be a complicated task. Theres not a lot I can help with though unless I know the specifics of what your trying to deal with.
Let me know what the prob is and I'll try help emoticon

Re: Troubleshooting

Could you give me a list of all the files you use in Vamp? If it's not TOO much trouble? It'd be nice to have the right specifications and not too much or too less.

The problem I'm having with Skinswitch is extracting the files from the resource.nob and turning that into a .nob file itself.

Re: Troubleshooting

Sinse we have 2 ST's running games, the list of files used could differ greatly. Easiest thing you could do is just get all of the maps, you cant go wrong that way. Then if your using one of the Skins, simply ask the ST if they have that skin installed.

As a safety measure, always make a character with a standard vamp skin so you can get into a game to speak to the ST if they arent in the Lobby.

As for .nob file, you only need to use winzip to extract them. I'd suggest making a copy of any skins .nob file and renaming it something like "empty" then open it in winzip and simply delete the contents. You should have yourself a premade .nob ready for your edited files.

When it comes to repacking the files back into the .nob just open the "empty" .nob file in winzip, and drag and drop the files into it. However, the files must be in the correct folders ( for example "Materials" )so drag and drop the folder ( not the individual files ). You'll know if this is right as winzip should display a path as the folder that the edited resourse should reside in... if its blank, try again.

And Remember, DO NOT use any compression on any file/folder that you repack or Vamp wont be able to read it. Hope that helps ya.

Re: Troubleshooting

First, you will need to remove or delete the contents of your saved games folder and character file folder ( Crypt ). This will means you'll loose a lot of saved games and chars... but this happens a lot more than you think. One of the files may have become corrupted and causes Vamp to crash a lot. This is usually the first course of action and we've all been through it at some point.

If that fails to solve the problem :

Do a complete uninstall, and deletion of any remaining files left behind that the uninstall didnt remove.

First move any custom content such as maps and skins to a safe place though. And once the unistall is complete, get yourself a good registry scanner ( many can be downloaded free off the net if you look carefully ). The scanner should find any stray registry information that isnt needed anymore as these can cause a lot of probs when running games.

Run scandisk, and then De-frag your drives, then power down your system for a couple of minutes. Then begin the task of reinstalling Vamp. Next install WTD before you add any custom skins and maps.

As for adding back the custom content, its more or less safe, but the main problem might be having too many files. We end up doing what we call "File Shuffling", that is adding only the files we need to the vamp folder and not the entire lot, changing them and moving them around as, and when required. Carefully select the maps and skins you are sure you'll be needing then put them back in the main vamp folder.

Now, run Vamp a few times.

Further problems with crashing might then point toward your system. Vamp usage on the CPU seems to be quite heavy, often causing overheating if the weather is hot, or the room is well heated. I would suggest this be looked into if crashes continue.

Theres a million and one other reasons too numerous to mention. But so far I think I've covered the main ones.
