Duotone Conversion

How or what techique do you use to create duotones? Is it just using "doutone" in CS? Is there other/better methods?

And why when working with 16bit Tiffs is "duotone" greyed out?

I'm using CS, to cheap to purchase CS2 emoticon

You can use the cs to duotone for you, or better still use doutone in cs combined with using a layer mask and simply paint the tone where you want it, its greyed out because you need to go to image~mode and change from 16 bit to 8 bit, to add a layer mask work on a copied layer add the colour to the image then press ALT and at the time click the add layer mask icon in the layers pallete, the image will revert back to mono, go to tools pallete and making sure the forground colour is set to white pick a softish brush and paint where you want a colour to go,

Conventional wisdon claims that converting from raw to 16bit is "better" than just 8bit. It maybe a marginal difference so I'm just going with the flow.

Here's a general question for all the B&W guru's do you adjust the color image to perfection then flatten the image then do your B&W conversion of choice?

Tidy up the colour and crop
then convert to monochrome
then tweak
