Hi There........

I’ve been lurking here for a while now so I thought it was about time to do the honourable thing and join properly.

I’ve always been a fan of B&W, I was one of the army of enthusiasts who used their parents kitchens/bathrooms to make some very bad prints, I bought a complete Patterson darkroom kit (mid 1970s) which I still have somewhere in my loft although it hasn’t seen the light of day for about 15 years now. I widely used Ilford film normally FP4 or HP5 if my memory serves me well.

I’m sure that my passion for photography in general and in particular B&W was handed down to me via genes on my fathers side if that’s at all possible, he always developed his own 35mm and Medium Format negs at home, his mother (my grandmother) worked as a photographer/assistant using glass plates in a studio way back in the ‘olden days’.

I currently use Bridge/ACR/CS3 for my processing of RAW files to colour and then into B&W, the problem is that I never seem to be satisfied with the results, hence looking for ideas and assistance, the pictures on this site seem to have a quality that I can only dream of at present, perhaps this is due to the Contrast Grading that I have read so much about on this site, the problem I have is that I’m not too computer lit and struggle when doing anything in CS3 that’s not basic.

Anyway that’s me, cheers for now.

Welcome Neil,

I remember those films too. I was never as happy with the results then as I am now. perseverence is the key, stick at it and digital mono can bring great rewards. this is the place to pick our brains; you just need a fine pin that's all emoticon

Welcome to the forum Neil. A grand place for learning the finer points of digital monochrome conversions and processing.

My LPL enlarger and other darkroom kit has, like yours been gathering dust in the loft for quite a while. Since switching 100% to digital, my photography has been revitalised and the processing side of things, whilst challenging can at least be carried out in comfort emoticon

Anyway, you have certainly come to the right forum for all things monochrome - enjoy!

Hi Mark

Thanks for looking at my site.

I really need to sort out the time to update it and add some more images, as usual with these things it's a job in progress, part of my motivation for joining this site is that I really want to expand the B&W section.
I'm here to contribute but also to learn from the more experienced emoticon
