Help with Prints

I need some advice as I have been asked by a local gallery for some of my images and dont really know where to start. They want a couple matted and framed and a selection just matted in clear wallets.
Im going to print on matte paper (probably Museo max, Epson 2880) What size do you guys generally print at in this type of situation A3 or A3+? How much border do you give? Any general advice welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with Prints

Depends how big your printer will let you, but I would say print centered on A3+ 16 to 18 inch longest side, the width will be dependent of your crop, this will allow a white border for matting, as for framing you can go as big as you wont, but you do need at least 3 inch gap from the edge of the matt window to the actual frame. A big frame will tend to make your prints look bigger than they actual are, but depends a lot on how much you want to spend, expect a framer to charge around £25~30 to mat and frame in a 22x18inch frame, To keep cost down you could make your own matts but a special cutter is needed, also quite a lot of card is required. best to search online for these items as art shops are really expensive and make the do it yourself way seem not worth the hassle

  Hope this helps

Martin

PS if you buy your own matt cutter get a good one such as Logan, cheap ones are a waste of money

Re: Help with Prints

Thank you so much for the advice Martin, its helped me develop my plan of action. A3+ it is (and some A4 for test). Remembered an old customer of mine from the chip shop was a framer and hopefully is going to cut me a deal on the mat and frame, also going to check out the range at "The Range" emoticon to see what they have available frame wise.

Thanks again for the help, i will let you know how it goes.
