I need a break (Yorkshire locations needed please)

With the zoo to look after, we haven't had a holiday in about 15 years. We take odd weeks at home and then work ourselves into the ground trying to catch up with various jobs instead. I've just got back from such a "break" and work is worse than ever. What I would love more than anything is a few days up in Yorkshire with the cameras. I think I was last up there around 15 years ago, just after losing my horse. I'm sure if I asked my husband he would be willing to cover for a little while. It may not happen this year, but if I had something planned then at least I would have something to look forward to.

I'm mostly familiar with the northern part of the Dales - that is Swaledale and Wensleydale. If I were to have 3 days and 2 nights, what would you recommend I visit? I'd probably go back to Hardraw Force and maybe Askrigg Falls, but I'd also like some bigger landscapes. I need the area to be fairly safe as I'm only little and have a bad leg. I could probably walk 2 or 3 miles, but forget long treks with difficult climbs. I'd like a river with some good looking stones - it's not something we have in the south and erm... maybe a sheep or two? emoticon

Wow! Thanks Chris. That is a comprehensive list - it may take a tad longer than 2 days to do that little lot. I just hope The Kings Arms in Askrigg is still there. (Actually, I made a mistake in my first post. That should have been Aysgarth Falls. I must have had that pub on the brain) emoticon

Actually this is all a bit of a joke. I'm struggling to free up my non-working Friday so I can have a few hours in London this week...

OK - I've whittled it down a bit. My list is currently:

Hardraw Force - waterfall
Ribblehead - viaduct
Brimham Rocks - rocks
Baildon - moor
Shipley - little waterfall
Ilkley - cow and calf rocks and moor
Otley - more rocks
Saltaire - canal, railway and weir

I still think it's too much to do in a couple of days. Can anyone help me refine it a bit more? I'd appreciate any tips on exactly where to go or when. An hour lost here and there would be a disaster emoticon

I would suggest a visit and stay at Dent, thats in Deepdale, you can then venture up the road to one of the most magnificent valleys in Yorkshire, Kingdsdale,. Also have a google at Ryedale, North Yorkshire moors, wonderful area, Or what about Whitby sea town and the upper moor lands there called Goathland

Thanks Martin! I haven't mentioned it to my husband yet, but I feel happier just planning something. I've found those on the map - I don't think I've ever been as far west as Dent. My normal route would be Arkengathdale to Swaledale and then zig-zag along Wensleydale and then continue south. I've never touched the North Yorkshire moors either, so there's a lot of reading to do.

Oh.. and my London trip would still appear to be on tomorrow emoticon
