Siloch Beyond Loch Maree

A TS-E 24mm Pano

Image

Tried numerous colour versions and didn't like any of them... Then tried a mono version.

IT is certainly a gerat composition and light is also great, but I keep coming back to this one and all the time get the feeling it has a bit non-photographic look. Don't know why.

I too looked at this and thought "great image, but..." The vignetting in top left and right corners is a distraction but the biggest puzzle for me is why do I see it as very one-dimensional? i.e. to my eyes the depth that should be there does not come across. Excellent DoF and composition but try as I might, that punch and real feeling of being 'there' somehow isn't present.

All the elements are there, present and correct - foreground interest, reflection of the trees, the islet, clouds and background mountain peak. I'm puzzled - maybe I need to get my eyes recalibrated!

Perhaps the experts can comment?

not an expert but I'd hazard that it's because the vignetting brings the central part forward, when the composition states that it is in the distance = a contradiction in perspective to the eye resulting in the two (distant and far) cancelling each other out resulting in a 'flat' perspective

just an idea

I am see this in a very different none technical way, If where to judge it, this is how I would evaluate it

Wow factor on seeing it for the first time 10/10

Artistic impression 10/10

Composition and depth 8/10

Also noted in Marks edit is the way he has edited the image to force the eye to the main focal point, the trees, this takes you instantly "into the picture" with no wondering.

Would it make a good print is always a good question, my answer would be a resounding YES, that alone makes this image a winner.

POTW IMHO

Martin

Who am I to quibble with the Master?! Hmm, anyone recommend a good 'eye-recalibration' service? emoticon

Outstanding capture, composition and conversion, but I agree with Kieth the vignette at the corners is too harsh. I think the idea of a vignette is a good one but it needs to be more subtle and maybe not go to almost black.
Still a crackin' image in my book.
