Abstract No. 2

Time to try something different... I finally got round to buying the Macro adapter set for my Lensbaby, and this is one of the shots I got trying it out. Same orchid as my previous abstract, but this time from the front.

LB is the Composer, double-glass optic with stacked close-up lenses ( +14 ) @ f/5.6

Only problem is the very close working distance, and blocking light as the main result...

Keith.

This is not as effective as the last one.

Hi Keith,

Some nice shapes and tones but I think it would be better if some part of it was in focus.

Regards

Bill, Hugh - thank you for your reactions to this one.

I have to say I this one as much as the last one... it's another attempt at connotation - to me the last one was 'cave painting', this one is a parent bird feeding it's young ( OK, so you may have to squint a bit for that one emoticon ).

You may be right about having something in focus Hugh - I've taken some more shots varying the focus and sweet-spot of the Lensbaby just to see how that affects the image. When I was shooting this one, I saw it soft on the focussing screen and liked it, but as always there is the possibility it could be better emoticon

Keith.

Hi Keith,

Now you said that I can see the parent feeding offspring connotation - very clever.

Looking forward to seeing a new version of this.

No. 3... Still shooting with the Lensbaby, but this time with just the +10 dioptre lens and at an aperture of roughly f/64 - a 0.8mm home-drilled hole in a silver shim ( from Pinhole Solutions ) attached to an LB disc emoticon

Focus is much sharper overall, with a later fall-off into the signature LB edge softness.

A different flower as well, but using the same composition and intention.

Keith.

Hi Keith,

Sorry to be a complete pain in the arse - I think I prefer the original now, it has really grown on me emoticon The new image just looks like a nice flower macro and doesbn't show your intention/vision so well.

Regards

Hugh

Which just proves the old saying "You can please some of the people....." I like the second version.

Thought you were losing your marbles with the parent feeding the young comment Keith emoticon but have to say i can see what you mean and in fact that is all i see now when i look at the first image emoticon and think its fab although i would never have seen it without help so a discriptive title would help i think.

Well composed and converted second image as well but the first has the edge for me.
