Chinatown, San Francisco (revised)
I was in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago, and we wandered into Chinatown for a couple of hours. Busy place. Limited myself to the 50mm. Saw this guy from the street corner cooking something for the restaurant below. This shot is taken at f/1.6. It gave a lot of the images a nice soft look for something different. Almost like one of the old plastic toy cameras, just not that extreme.
Took Chris's advice and lowered the key a bit. Also added a fair amount of grain to give it a bit of a gritty feel to match what really is Chinatown.
Regards,
Dave

Re: Chinatown, San Francisco
Chris, really did enjoy using the prime. It dooes force you to be a bit more creative. I shot partly with the lens almost wide open, but also stopped down a bit. It really does perform very well stopped down.
Edited to a lower key a gritier feel.
Regards,
Dave

Re: Chinatown, San Francisco (revised)
now that is more my taste...
I have fallen in love with an SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 which I use at f8 or f11... on my Oly it is 100mm equivalent and focus is purely manual

Re: Chinatown, San Francisco (revised)
Thanks Chris. Have been thinking about some alternative glass lately. Wouldn't mind some manual focus.

Re: Chinatown, San Francisco (revised)
Hi Dave,
This takes me back to when I used to do film photography. The only lens I ever owned back then was a 50mm. I really enjoyed the disciplin of this and having to work a bit harder at finding the image. Now I can go all the way from 10mm through 200mm without shifting my arse!
The one thing I think is missing from this image is a whole loead of stuff from the bottom. I want to see more of what is below the shop sign.
I do like the processing of this one though.
Hugh
