Re: trying again for the film look

I like all of these Chris. I find it hard to comment on the film feel because at this size it is just a bit tricky.

In the first it is most apparent in the signage; but the wet pavement gives a great feel to the image.

The second I would suggest cropping off the left and right except the viewpoint ties in so well with the third.

Third one is the star to me, the balance (even with the plain white wall left) is excellent and to see these two chaps enjoying the crack with the world passing them by is wonderful.

thanks Bill...think you are right about the size making it difficult to fully comment...These are three from my ongoing street series...if I dont get arrested I will have a years worth to sift through... I am also keeping to a 612 (2:1) format and trying to get the composition in camera so sometimes that wall is going to be a little strong...

Good street images Chris, Film has a softer look, not less sharpe but softer and that is because of the grain, these still look digital and need more texture, tried to add some to your small file

I like this grain feel very much. How do you add it Martin? I once downloaded from somewhere 3 grain scans jpegs. They are 4300x2900 and look like that http://img14.imageshack.us/i/grainr.jpg/
but I'm not sure how to use them.

Oh, and nice pictures Chris, I definitely like the first one best.

Re: trying again for the film look

Its made using a plugin for PS called Real Grain by Imagenomic, its the best simulation I have used for grain, and thats by comparing it to film scans side by side on screen, it has not shown to well on Chris small JPEG but worth trying the demo first to see if you like it

The link to the picture you gave, I have had a look and can deff say realgrain is far superior for the film look, Grain in film is not just random dots its like little tiny fibre strands at all angles

My take Chris. A little tougher at this size. Grain from Jeff Ascough's actions.
I do enjoy this series. If you do get arrested, be sure to get some shots from the inside.emoticon

Chris, post crop of the high res image so we can actually see the structure of your grain, preferably the mid tone area
