You see a loverly piccy so you take a snap

looks good enough to be monochrome...so you look at the luminosity

oh yuck...so you fiddle about with curves

a little better but just cos it looks good in colour dont assume it looks good in monochrome...monochrome is controlled by luminosity, light and shade, whether in the original or created in the edit.

and you thought this was easy emoticon

Well depends, the prob with this is tonal separation, the red poppies are the same tone as the background, now if you used a blue filtration in CS and used that for the poppies it would look entirely different with some pop emoticon in it, and add selective sharpen and blur ~~~~
