Thanks Steven. It's not modesty so much as just a complete inability to be sure sometimes what does and what doesnt work in B+W

Well deserved. Liked it instantly.

In most cases I find my best pictures are those that need least edit. Simply, no post processing can substitute for good light and composition.

That's the good thing about the forum - getting comments, and helpful suggestions. And I'd certainly liked this one of Simon's first time round, even though it was only put on for technical reasons.
The only puzzle is when several view, but nobody comments - does that mean it's boring, so bad that any frank comment may seem embarrassingly rude, or that the viewer hasn't any idea how to improve it?

How true.
However thinking back I think this was probably two exposures - I'll check later - been doing a lot of that lately

Tis forum is *INVALUABLE* AFAIC. I really really need the feedback to help me understand not only what others like but also what it is that IM trying to do and whether Im succeeding or not.
As to the puzzle about responses, you're right it can be confusing or even discouraging when we don't get the comments. I think you have probably hit the reasons on the head but sometimes it's difficult to comment for some reason
I think probably all of the above but also... most often I don't comment when at first view Im either:
1- just not sure and want to see what others say,
2- or I want to wait til a second viewing to see if I feel the same way ( I know some days everything i look at seesm crap because I got out of bed the wrong side),
3- Im not sure at that moment how to give constructive criticism on something that I think needs constructive criticism
4- or I really don't like it at all ( not happened yet)
5- or I'm indifferent due to subject matter (occasionally)
6- or I'm frightened my comment will seem banal or patronising even when I like something
7- or I Don't have time at that moment
Thinking about it I think that hardest to comment on are those that I am indifferent to: i'e they are not a bad pic but it just leaves me flat. I think that is hard to comment on because if you say it leaves me flat that sounds worse than actually giving constructive criticism. i.e. if I can't be consructive I'd rather say nothing.
