'scuse my ignorance but after you have opened an image in DPP how do you get it into photoshop?

I tried and it seems Ps just opened it via ACR anyway so I lost my DPP settings

Do you have to save it as a TIFF first? i.e. you can't open it as a CR2 (Canon Raw) in Ps after opening in DPP?
thanks

Hi Hugh, no hurry. I was that you were having some pretty heavy snow over there. Not fun when it starts plugging everything up.

Well if I had still been living in Sheffield (Yorkshire, North of England) I probably wouldn't be in work today, as it is we just have rain in Newcastle Upon Tyne (North East England - but further North)!

Sounds like it has been chaos in London/South East but they are Southern Softies after all emoticon

Simon, open in DPP and make adjustments, then go to tools, transfer to photoshop. Alt+P on a pcemoticon

Will transfer as a TIFF.

Hugh, you said it not me. emoticon

Dave - I note in C1 you have just used the exposure slider...pull up the highlight slider a little and things get more interesting!

Chris, I took DPP and adjusted the exposure down until the sun was at 254, 254, 254. This came to -.37 on the exposure slider. A screen capture shows the result.

Image

Capture One 4 was then set with exposure slider to -.37 to match DPP, and I then adjusted to highlight slider as you suggested until the sun was at 254, 254, 254.
Screen capture.

In my view, and I have not used capture one, at reletively the same settings DPP seems to produce a better result around the sun. There may be other ways in Capture One and I will play some more to see. Do you have any suggestions for other methods based on your usage?

Regards,

Dave

Must admit I use the BFI method and do ctrl-f and then tweak to taste...
also remember C1 sets up default sharpening and noise reduction and the actual image is seen at 100% and not the fit to screen size...
also I am not saying C1 is the be all and end all, just that for my Olympus files it is the best raw manipulator I have found

No arguement here from me - Im a Southern (well South-Eastern) softy!

I remember seeing in the Beano once where one of the 'softies' exclaims "Come along fellow softies" - I always though that was hilarious emoticon

Well, I think DPP may be better at the extreme ends of the spectrum. I don't think it competes with either ACR or Capture one beyond that. My thoughts are simply that it can help us Canon guys in those areas. And I am surprised by that.

Both screen shots are 100%.

Dave
