Photoshop short cuts

Original author RAitch
I thought it would be cool to post a thread for Photoshop keystroke shortcuts.
Lets try to keep it simple and on topic so people don't have to wade through heeps of posts.

I'll get it kicked off... I know I've posted more elsewhere, but as you learn them, post them. These are the ones I use ALL THE TIME.

[ -make brush smaller
] -make brush bigger
Shift+[ -make brush softer
Shift+] -make brush harder

X -swap foreground and background colours
D -reset to default foreground and background colours

CTRL+J -new layer via copy
CTRL+SHIFT+C -copy merged image (what you currently see)

CTRL+D -deselect
CTRL+H -hide current selection (again to show)

With the brush tool {B}:
NumberKey -sets brush opacity (3=30%, 6=60%, 0=100%)
* press 2 numbers quickly to set precise percentages like 33%
SHIFT+NumberKey -sets brush flow rate (just like opacity)

Double-click on Hand tool -fit image to window
Double-click on Zoom tool -view image at 100%
F -toggle screen view (window/fullscreen/presentation)
Spacebar in full screen mode -use hand and return to previous tool
CTRL+Space -temp. zoom in tool
ALT+Space -temp. zoom out tool

CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+N -Create new layer
CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E -paste merged image copy (copy of everything you see)

CTRL+Click layer/mask -load layer/mask as selection
CTRL+SHIFT+~ -select highlights of the image
CTRL+SHIFT+I -inverse selection (selection in image layer)
CTRL+I -inverse mask (for active layer mask)

ALT+Click on layer mask -fills new mask with black to hide the effect
ALT+Click new layer -dialog for layer type and name

CTRL+~ -view RGB channel
CTRL+1 -view Red channel
CTRL+2 -view Green channel
CTRL+3 -view Blue channel
CTRL+4 and so on -view alpha channels

F7 -show layers

Q -enter quick mask mode to build selections using painting tools
\ -show mask on overlay mode
* same as ALT+SHIFT+Clicking on mask
ALT+Click Mask -show mask in full screen grayscale
SHIFT+Click Mask -hide mask effect (like it's not there)
ALT+Click Layer Eyeball -only show this layer
* good for clicking original layer to compare to original version

Re: Photoshop short cuts

I'm working on video tutorials at the moment.
I've had a problem with the authoring application and have now purchased the latest version.

I have to start all over again though!
I'll get something up as soon as I can.

The crown belongs to RAitch though!

Re: Photoshop short cuts

Here's an update for CS4...
a CS4 Keyboard Shortcuts PDF

the shortcut CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + ~ used for selecting highlights doesn't seem to work on my CS4.

I'll report back when I find the answer.

EDIT: Ctrl+Alt+Shift+~ in previous versions has been replaced with Ctrl+Alt+2

When you have a brush and you are zoomed in then hold the <SPACEBAR> down to move around the image

'Merge up' merges visible layers into a new layer and places it at the top
