Epson 3800
Alright all you printing experts. I just purchased my first real photo printer, previously using a Epson R320, and a new D5 Mark II is on the way. Being in Texas, USA I cant sign up for and take Martins printing class. So I thought some of you might be willing to share some advice on this printer and how to get the best out of it.
So far I have printed some 16 x 20's on Epson enhanced matt paper from 8meg files and even though it is an upres file the results have blown me away. Both color and B and W
I can only imagine what it will be like when I have a 21meg file to work with.
Anyway, you guys have always been helpful in the past.
Happy Hoildays
Rob

Re: Epson 3800
Hi Rob
Everything you need to know about your new printer is here, Eric Chan works for Adobe, a great photographer in his own right, he owns, loves and uses his 3800 so much he wrote these notes.
Enjoy

Re: Epson 3800
Rob / Martin,
Have either of you ever experienced any head clogs with the 3800? I am looking at buying a pro printer, the 3800 being on the list - the other being a second user Canon iPF5000 (12 inks, 2 heads, no black in swapping).
I have had a few Epsons in my time, but have ALWAYS suffered heads blockages, even when only ever having used original Epson inks. I am therefore a bit concerned about another Epson, as my last one ended up as scrap due to a clogged head (an R1800).
Any other points I should consider from your combined experience would be appreciated.
Cheers
Pete

Re: Epson 3800
Hi Pete, this is my second Epson over fours years and I have never had one problem, maybe its because I print often, the Epson 3800 will not take paper rolls, it swops inks depending on what papers you use , so there is a small waste of ink, the Canon does not swop, [charge], one advantage of the Epson is its size , for a large format printer it is very compact, the Canon is quite big so check that out before purchase. I have been delighted with the Epson and cannot comment on any other printers as I have not used any other.
