Hi,
I've been "playing" with this image for quite a while, and recently using the convert to B&W plug in.
Down load image
I'd be interested to see if anyone can make a silk purse from a pigs ear  especially using the plug in. I'd also be interested to see what settings you used.
Sorry for the small image size, but it was taken a while ago with Mrs. Riv's old 2M pixel camera.

Okay...some quick and dirty...
duplicate layer
bottom layer filter 359, contrast 0,0,1.0
top layer filter 359, contrast 0,0,3.0
blend with soft light, add a gradient filter, pump up the highlights and shadows, sharpen.
The second image is just the result of the first manipulations run through with contrast 0,0,3.0 again and a bit of Neat for the clouds
But how did you want your silk purse?

-Recovery 100
