Does anyone use Gimp?
I registered and posted awhile back on different software. I decided on Gimp for now because my system is very old, and I will be replacing it soon. I wanted to put off getting Photoshop until I had a new version of windows instead of buying older, less desirable software now and having to rebuy soon when I get a new computer.
I am having fun with Gimp - it seems to do the basic tasks well and there are TONS of different things to do, but i am clueless how to use them all. I really want great monochrome conversions like I see on here, but I just cannot figure it out on gimp. I read these boards a lot and try to figure out how to do the same things described here, but I am just stumped. I found a gimp tutorial out there, but it just doesnt give me the same thing. Right now i have a photo of some clouds at sunset that I am wanting to convert into both a great color and monochrome image. I feel like i have stared at it for so long, I dont know what's up or down anymore. So i am wondering if anyone is familiar with gimp and can help me with it.
I read these boards often, and I love looking at all the images for ideas and inspiriation, but I am having a very hard time posting anything of my own - I just cant get it right. Thanks!

Re: Does anyone use Gimp?
I used the 30 day trail of PSCS2 when I first got my camera, when the 30 days was up I didnt want to spend the money on PS so I tried gimp for about 3 weeks and decided it wasnt half the program that PS is so I sucked it up and spent the money. The gimp interface was buggy for me and it didnt seem to do things quite effeciently(SP?) as PS. I know its free and an open format, but I think that is part of the problem. Everyone and their brother can write code for it and as we all know a program is only as good as its author.
