L-curse (Mont Saint Michel)
Hi forummembers,
Took this picture during sunset at the Mont Saint Michel ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont_Saint-Michel ). For me the problem when converting is the luminousity of the colors. Of course the aim is to keep the shadow of the abbey as clear as possible.. I'm sure many of you can do much better than I did so far, I would really love to see a monochrome version of this (hope it's possible), Thanks for your help, Leon

Hi Leon, I tried t convert but it just breaks down, [file to small] anyway below is a sample of how well contrast masking works to open shadows
heres a link to how its done

Re: L-curse (Mont Saint Michel)
Wow, thanks Martin ! This is immediately a big improvement; I attemped a rough conversion staight away and are now able to make the shadow of the abbey really stand out ! (I'll try a more controlled conversion and add some nice vignette in the sky; I saw Chris posted some good tips on this). Thanks again, I think I know the tutorials by now, next step should be to know when to use what (hope to get the hang of that aspect too). Cheers, Leon

Re: L-curse (Mont Saint Michel)
No probs Leon, you know the wet darkroom was a place where ways to edit a negative where done by expert printers, people who new and understood the ways to get the most from a print, today its digital but the old ways still work better than any other method, even though its done on a screen, programmers know this thats why various plug ins, scripts have been written to put the old method into digital, without me realizing I work digitally but my work flow is very similar to my darkroom days from editing to print, takes timew to learn but so enjoyable when that print is on the wall framed
