Landing Stage
Your wish is my command Chris.
You're welcome to try this one. It is deliberately underexposed to keep the detail in the clouds. Maybe hdr will prove more effective.

Re: Landing Stage
I am going to have a play with it...come on everybody have a go...this image does remind me why I went for an Olympus DSLR!
I used Photomatix to stretch the tonal range. As far as the mountains went I tried to make them high contrast and sharper than the rest of the image to try draw the eye to them...

Re: Landing Stage
Very nice Chris!
A slightly different approach.
A pretty straight conversion to mono left a rather flat image. Then lots of selective dodge and burn activity via "paint with light". Similar to other dodge/burn techniques found elsewhere on this site. I tried to bring out the symetry of light and dark spaces and preserve as many mid-tones as possible. I still think the crop enpowers the composition...

The "paint with light" action can be found here:

Also, here you can find a so-so tutorial:

Re: Landing Stage
Yes, I like the painting with light conversion Andy, and I agree with the crop. A simple case of rule of thirds.

Re: Landing Stage
Hi,
Well here's my effort, thought I would try for a grainier look (my attempt to make it look a bit different to the other excellent conversion).
That painting with light action looks interesting - I think it will take me a while to work it out though (you were right to call the tutorial so so!)
Regards
Hugh
