DIY off-camera shoe cable
As those of you with Canon's may know, you can only buy a 2 foot off camera shoe cable. Poking around on the POTN site I found a thread that talks about making one to any length you want. I was protmpted to do this by my lack luster smoke shots a couple of weeks ago. I need a better light source than my 500w lamps. I needed to get my flash off camera to make the same setup as I have seen in many other smoke photography sessions. So I have decided to do this:
I ordered a 6 foot male/female ps/2 cable and a 25 foot male/female ps/2 cable and canon off shoe 2 cable. I will cut the 6 foot ps/2 cable in half and use it to replace the coiled cable, soldering each half to one side of the canon connectors. I will then have two lengths available. 6 foot if I just want to plug the two ends together or 31 feet if I place the 25 foot extension between the two ends. This method will reduce the amount of soldering and remove the need to solder those pesky mini din connectors. It should make a very clean package too.
cost excluding shipping:
Canon off-camera shoe cord 2: $46.00
25 foot ps/2 cable: $18.99
6 foot ps/2 cable: $8.99
I will post some pictures of the asembly process and the finished product. I hope this works like I think it will.
