RAW decoders and image processing and plugins

While it should not matter how we get our images on to the screen we all have a tendency to assume that everyone is using a big version of Photoshop and as such our advice may be a little off ... Also version one of Martins Contrast Grading is biased towards PS and certain plug ins by necessity and I hope in the future it can become more generic ...so I am asking what we mainly use on this board, not to keep us PS biased but to see who is not PS based and ensure we can be inclusive...

RAW Processing : Capture One for Olympus files and ACR for Fuji IR files

Image Processing: Photoshop CS2

MAin Plugins: Image Factory Convert to BW PRo
many PS actions gleaned from all over the place

Re: RAW decoders and image processing and plugins

I tried replying but hit the button just as it decided to do its daily back up!

Anyway:
RAW: LR2.2 and ACR
Will use DPP when I gt the 5D2 unless LR +ACR ge a better reputation for those files before then

Image processing: CS4, sometimes LR and sometimes Photomatix

Plug-ins: Only one I use really for BW is Lucis 2

100's of Ps actions that I have not even started to explore yet

What I DONT use: most of the plug-ins that Martin has mentioned, and , because Imon a Mac, not some of the other windows only plug-ins mentioned in threads

Re: RAW decoders and image processing and plugins

Photoshop CS4 for RAW and all other PP
(Sometimes Lightroom 2 for a big event shoot for it's organising/sorting capabilities)

Plugins:

Nik SilverEfex Pro

ColorEfex Pro

Imagenomics Noiseware Professional

Alien Skin Exposure 2: Black and White Film/Colour Film (to emulate Fuji Velvia 50 on colour images)

theimagingfactory: ConvertToBW Pro 3

Photokit Sharpening Tool Suite

A whole bunch of home made PS Actions:

Convert to srgb

Set Image size to 18"x12"/300dpi/Bicubic Smoother

Contrast Masking action

Other Actions to auto resize for various dimensions required for my website (thumbnails etc)

Apart from the Actions, I'm tending to use plugins less and less, instead choosing to grasp the basic concepts of how Photoshop ticks and finally got my head around channels and masks.

Re: RAW decoders and image processing and plugins

I was all CS3 until I bought my new camera

Now I am forced to use the Canon raw converter then transfer to CS3.

I will be fixing that after the first of the year. Upgrade to CS4 time.

Rob, why not get the free Adobe DNG converter, you could convert then use the DNG file in CS3, just a thought

Martin

I will look into that Martin. I really like the interface of the ACR plugin. I have gotten so use to using it, I really miss it.
