the many ways to print

I admit I very rarely print my images!!!!
But Martins idea of allowing others to see different printing of images has me setting up a little project

I am getting together one image printed many different ways and then I intend passing them around the interested parties in the group...

so who wants to print?

who wants to see the images?

cheers folks

If you want to print...
Basically I send you a file, you print it and send me a copy...you could even get copies done at local print shops...

Once I have a reasonable number of images I post them around a list of those interested for comment...we can then come to our collective and individual opinion on printing monochrome images...

Due to costs I only see us doing this once or twice but it will show us all what the limitations on various printing methods are...

I don't print my own work. The only local custom printer in my area is spendy and slow. I can have Martin do my fine art prints and get a much higher quality print. Perhaps what I would do is have Martin print it, but do it on a little different type of paper than normally he would. What are your thoughts? I would cover the cost for 1 print.

Dave

So do we just print the file as is when we get it? what size?

Im willing to knock out a print and make up the numbers.

Not sure what is intended, Chris - do you want to compare the output of the exact same file from different printers and papers, or let us see how each of us like to edit the file as well as print it? If the former, then there's no need to duplicate printer/paper combinations.

Are you thinking of A4 size, or less, for ease of postage?

Either way, I'm interested. I print on various papers with an HP B8850 (but also have an Epson R360), and edit with CS4 on a MacBook Pro with a Dell 2408WFP (which can't really distinguish dark tones 1 to 15).

Martin has already done a print of the file so you can compare his version with Ilfords and I am going to get one from Photobox -- if Martin is your printer there is noe use getting a copy printed... on the other hand if you have another printer you want to compare then by all means get a print done..

Hi Mark... I send you the file as I would send the file to any other printer and ask for a print, preferably non glossy. If you as a printer wish to 'improve' it to ensure your prints are seen well or wish to just do a straight print or one of each...thats up to you.
The image is 10x8 300dpi.
Prints get sent back to me and then I post them off to the first on the list and we post them round the list
