Cold comfort cottage v.2

Well thanks to my friends here at D-M forum I have re-worked this image and tried to take on board all your suggestions. I have also expanded the view a bit.

I really appreciate all the helpful suggestions I have received on this. Originally I viewed this as a bit of fun but I have taken this edit seriously since you seem to think the subject had merit.

Can't see me earning much from print sales tho' as it's an NT property and they'd have my guts for garters. emoticon

Very nice. This edit is a worthwhile improvement over the first version.

Is the land owned by the National Trust as well? When you took the photograph, if you were standing on anything that constitutes a public right of way you'll be okay to sell prints.

Bill,

Sell it to the National Trust then?

I really liked the first edit of this image but this one is a definate improvement. Much more subtle.

Regards

Hugh

Interesting didn't know that, just googled and found this...

quote:

Please note that their policy applies to all images taken within the boundaries of their properties, is not just limited to the buildings and does also include any flora, fauna, animals and artwork photographed on their properties. This is regardless of whether the location is identifiable or not.

Seems a bit extreme to me.

Hi Mark,

At the end of the day they are a charity funded by membership subscriptions and by revenue from visitors (I am sure there are many other income streams as well).

The NT have their own picture library/agency thingy that allows them to realise additional income from the images of their property and they don't want people just being able to take images for themselves for free and profit from it.

I actually think it is quite a reasonable stance.

Hugh

I agree with Mark. I think their stated policy is way too extreme. They were put in place to protect certain land and buildings for the benefit of the public as a whole. NOT for their own (the NT's) benefit.

Whilst as a charity they need to protect their own income stream as one of their assets "Theft" of other peoples skills and efforts is taking this way too far for me. It was also way too much for one of their own staff 'togs to put up with and he left after copyright grabbing efforts in an NT ccompetition.

It is also one of the reasons I have not joined. I object to paying to protect such a draconian attitude.

They have been doing the rounds recently, getting images of their properties removed from stock agencies, which I suppose is fair enough, IF the photographer was on their land.

One of my friends had to remove some of his photographs from a stock agency, although he knew that it was a bit naughty putting them there in the first place!

The bit in their terms about the location being identifiable or not is quite amusing. If the location can't be identified then I can't imagine how they are going to know in the first place.
