Legalities of Limited Edition Prints
I'm starting to sell different sized numbered limited edition prints to interior designers. Question is: what's the true definition of a "limited edition print"? Is it the Image itself regardless of what the print size is...or can I publish limited editions of one image for each sized print i.e. 8 x 10, 11 x 17, 13 x 19, 17 x 22, etc.
I get different answers from people I talk to here. I would appreciate hearing from those who do limited editions on this forum. Thanks in advance.

Re: Legalities of Limited Edition Prints
In the old days of printing from blocks or plates it was basically a limited run...later it also be came to be the limited number even if printed in batches or on demand so that there are only a known signed number of prints...and usually the plate was destroyed...the print was the result not the plate on which much work had occurred
Today that is difficult unless you destroy your file from which you print...so you can limit your print runs in any way you wish...and even if there is a limited run of signed and numbered there can be others that are not signed or numbered and then there can be the artists proofs an getting to the stage to do the print run...
So bottom line...assuming you want the 'limitation' to add some cache to your images, then decide how you the artist wants to limit the edition and tell the buyer...

Re: Legalities of Limited Edition Prints
I undersatnd it as this
As applied to fine art photographs, the term "limited edition" is usually understood to mean a stated number of prints of an image in a particular size and in a particular format. ..., therfore if you sell unsigned prints then they are not part of the edition, if ypou sell prints in differing sizes, igned and numbered then they are part of the edtion and should be numbered
