Re: From first capture to Mono

Here we go. I used USM, Diffuse glow light and dark, Pixelgenius (hazecutter, and depth of field) and some dodge and burn. the sky was a bit dificult, and still not 100%, but I was having trouble keeping it looking natural. I even started to work up some banding when trying to sharpen the dark areas of the sky with the depth of field sharpner, so backed off of that. First time using the diffuse glow, so I need to spend some time with it. There is a big difference editing a 1 series file, I have not had the pleasure before. These files will take a lot more editing. My wallet is starting to hurt. emoticon (that reminds me Martin, my wife may want to have a word with you. emoticon ) So, I am going to keep practicing on this file, but hope to get some feedback to keep me headed in the right direction. I should mention that I tried to stay pretty close to Martin's edit so as to try to learn the technique.

Dave

Hi Dave, you done a pretty good job on it, positives, the skies about right and also the middle tones, negavtives, the shadows are not good in the darkest areas, plus we got some black spots in the cloud left side, halos are a bit evident, but nit picking there,

Anyways I am working flat out to get my tutorial on contrast grading. how I edit, ready for download before Xmas and you will see its not rocket science all this conversion stuff, its simple and you can say good by to halos, block shadows and blown highlights emoticon

Thanks Martin. The shadows were difficult. especially the trees. In your edit, the outer tips have a nice lightness to them while the darker tone towards the trunks give it nice depth, and a natural look. I was having a hard time keeping the natural look. I am really looking forward to your tutorial. I also figure that I am making it to complicated, and thus causing problems.

Dave

The K.I.S.S. principle. Keep It Simple Stupid. I sometimes have to say that to myself. emoticon

Second edit. I tried a few different things on the sky, but am to lazy to go back and fix it right now as my main focus was the mountain and the shadows, so ignore the sky please. I used a little different method for my dodge and burn, seems to work better.

So, what do you think Martin? Better?

When I try and review this whole thread some of the links are broken. Can they be restored as I would really like to read it intact in the hopes of educating myself. Thanks!
