Re: My work flow on video

Thank you Martin for the Video.

I bought it just because i like the pics on this site, and wanted to show my appreciation.

Seen martins pics in a few places and always thought how the #### does he do that emoticon

It makes a BIG change to see a before and after picture as most photographers are rather secretive about such things.

All well and good on these other sites when you see a awesome picture but no idea how it was achieved and it was not just by clicking the fire button on the camera !!

Anyway thank you very much.........now i have something else to learn emoticon

Andy.

Merry Christmas Martin!. I am excited to see that you have produced a video on your workflow. I am a visual learner and it will be a tremendous help to me. I am going to order mine tomorrow. I hope you will produce more videos in the future.

Thanks again and may you have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Re: My work flow on video

Just looking through your vid again Martin, this time started from the end and working my way backwards (typical Aquarian way of doing things!) only looked at sharpening so far and three things occur to me

1- You recommend starting with amount 22 ish radius 40 ish:
this is VERY different to what I had been using which was what Canon recommended (amount 300, radius .03)

Can you (or others) explain the merits of these settings versus other types of settings?

2- Can we have a forum section for each aspect of the vid tutorials to didcuss each aspect in detail?
(e.g. Tutorial video discussion) This would increase sales too probablyemoticon
i.e.
DM tutorial Video>(Chapter 1) Master Colour
DM tutorial Video>(Chapter 2) Master Mono
DM tutorial Video>(Chapter 3) Sharpening
DM tutorial Video>(Chapter 4) Image fix
DM tutorial Video>(Chapter 5) USM
DM tutorial Video>(Chapter 6) Screen Calibration

You might or might not want to amalgamate/make alias from, current threads that already cover these.E.g put alias in 'contrast masking section, ways to convert section etc? (just a thought) at any rate I guess it all belong in the 'learning area'emoticon

3- I would like to ask that if at all possible you add voice as well to your next vid - I really miss not having the voice explain, I find it so much easier to understand when someones talking to me - I tend to doze off hen I read things.. emoticon

Adding are3as for the vid is a good idea Simon I will do that,

The sharpening is quite different to Canons recommenced settings because its for a different reason, the settings I have given a start point are not for sharpening but to add more punch and contrast to the image.

This tells you why

You would not appreciate my voice on the vid, perhaps a little music to keep you awake, seriously though, I did some research into this, it seems that for many to read and study is easier than to listen to audio and keep going back, I suppose the best scenario would be to do both , as the option to switch of audio is there, will think about that one,

Thanks Simon

Martin

Martin, Have my copy which arrived just before the festive break. Had a chance to look at a couple of run throughs and will be putting it all to the test soon. I was glad to see my work flow is on the right track.
One question I would ask is when would you recommend removing noise from an image. I assume you do this in the Colour Master stage but your view would appreciated.
John.

Re: My work flow on video

Hi Martin,

I sat up until 2:30 am this morning (regretted it when I got up for work though

emoticon ) going through your video tutorial.

Thought it was excellent. I had sort of 'got it' from the info on the learning zone on your web site and had taken on the ethos of new layer - adjust - paint - flatten but seeing it in the context of you working on one of your master pieces really made a big difference. I was very impressed with what you did with Crisp Image and the other one (Photo something - can't remember the name of the top of my head!).

I am really looking forward to applying the techniques to some of the images taken in Whitby later on today emoticon

Regards

Hugh

posticon Bugger Me

Hello everybody, I'm new to this site. I found it by accident while on one of my web searches on how to improve workflow.

Well "Bugger Me" I found this site, bought the cd and spent last night working on a photograph. All I can say at this point is that I'd like to go back 8 years of digital workflow and start again. Don't get me wrong, I've done very well with my photography but this is fantastic. I prefer matt papers and getting crisp images can be difficult as PS is so destructive.

What I achieved last night was a non black dots in sky, distant trees that still held detail and a fantastic crisp image printed on to Art Matt paper. I thought the b&w tools in PS3 were fantastic at first untill I realised how destructive they can be, especially the green/yellow sliders.Grass would turn to mush. The only PS tool I used (manipulation)twice was curves and that was subtle to darken sky, not overall contrast. I also used Neat Image sharpening. I intend to buy PHOTOKIT aswell.

It's not a magic wand as you have to work hard but the end result is well worth it with a non destructive result.

Great stuff

Barrie
