Do the plug-ins work in PS Elements if you have not got a full version of PS?

Chris, Although I have never used Elements I would say the cheaper Photoshop Elements 2.0, and the expensive Photoshop, both made by Adobe, would be able to use the same kind of plugins. Perhaps users of Elements in our forum could confirm this

Re: Elements

Crisp Image Pro definitely supported in Elements.

Imaging Factory, unkown as it is no longer supported by it's designer.

Photokit, it appears not.

Is IF still downloadable and installable?
Smart curve works in Elements so it should be possible to make up some curves that will at least do the contrast grades ... this could be useful for those that do not want to purchase IF even if it is installable...make CG DVD more stand alone

Re: Elements

Hello everyone. I'm finally back after nearly severing a finger last summer. It's all gone to pot - the tendon is stuck, I have a lump on the back of my hand limiting movement and now my fingers are numb! I haven't dared pick up a camera, but I have been doing a bit of scanning.

Thanks to Martin I'm now the proud owner of the tutorial and I spent this morning trying out his methods for the first time. (I still shoot film and this was the first digital conversion for me). I've always struggled with the differences in the instructions for full Photoshop and Elements, but with the video and a new Elements book I've been able to work out things like layer mask. (I did say I was new at these things!)

Anyway, the tutorial couldn't have been better and I've just spent a quick hour doing my own thing with Martin's file. I think I missed out some steps, particularly in getting the colour image right, but this is my first attempt. Erm.. I'm afraid I didn't fuss too much about watching highlights and shadows, but there's time for that later. emoticon

Brilliant for a first time effort. Those of you who have bought the vid know the Raw file supplied is flat as the proverbial f$%t, and to get the image, for a beginner,to this level shows it works, the absence of halos is also good, a nightmare for many [well I have to plug it emoticon] seriously though, the image just needs a few tweaks, a little more grading to add punch and its a printable version, well done Little Zooey,
 PS
Hope that finger improves quick

Martin

Thank you Martin. I'll admit to being in tears last night because I couldn't get a layer mask. I think I was trying to follow the description in your learning zone. You say (quite rightly) press Alt and the layer mask icon, but I couldn't find one anywhere (in Elements) and I just couldn't get a combination of layers where I could "paint" as you described. I think this was as far as I got last year and I very nearly gave up. If it hadn't been for this tutorial then I would never have tried a digital conversion.

I'm just about to play the video again, but without stopping this time. Maybe it will help me remember some of those steps I missed out emoticon

Oh... and for Chris - Photokit definitely doesn't work with Elements. I tried the download this afternoon and although it appears on the list, it brings up an error message.

Re: Elements

Chris,

Before I went on to CS2 I used Elements 3 (or was it 4?) - I still use CS2 BTW as I have never felt the need to splash out on later versions (too tight?).

Anyway, back to the point. I used to run Alien Skin plug-ins on elements (Exposure was the one I used). I also know that Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro works on PS 7 through CS4, Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 through 6.0.

I think you will find that quite a few will work. The developers sites will usually give some blurb on compatibility.

Little Zooey

Sorry to hear about you finger. I had a 90% sever of the tendon of my right hand gthumb a few years ago after I lost a gight with a wine glass! With physiotherapy it is almost as good as new though it did take a little while. I am sure you will have the camera back in yur nad before long.

Also I don't think elements works the same way and just doesn't do layer masks the same way. What you can do with layers in elemenst though is use the eraser tool on a layer to reveal the underlying layer.

Regards

Hugh

Thanks Hugh! Mine was done on a broken glass jug whilst trying to syringe feed one of our goats. I think I feel up to holding a camera again, but our problem is a lack of time. We spent the whole of Christmas shifting over 5 tons of gravel, rubber matting and rubber chippings into the chicken run. We caught up with the housework last weekend, so my treat was a trip out with the cameras this weekend. No such luck! The field shelter flooded on Thursday and not only did we have to dig that out, we had to clear 30 feet of drainage ditch too! emoticon
