USM question and audio on tutorial

I Simous asked this in another thread

1- You recommend starting with amount 22 ish radius 40 ish:
this is VERY different to what I had been using which was what Canon recommended (amount 300, radius .03)

Can you (or others) explain the merits of these settings versus other types of settings?

3- I would like to ask that if at all possible you add voice as well to your next vid - I really miss not having the voice explain, I find it so much easier to understand when someones talking to me - I tend to doze off hen I read things..

The sharpening is quite different to Canons recommenced settings because its for a different reason, the settings I have given a start point are not for sharpening but to add more punch and contrast to the image.

This tells you why

You would not appreciate my voice on the vid, perhaps a little music to keep you awake, seriously though, I did some research into this, it seems that for many to read and study is easier than to listen to audio and keep going back, I suppose the best scenario would be to do both , as the option to switch of audio is there, will think about that one,

Thanks Simon

Martin

This is because if you where to go back to the file to make any fixes or tonal alterations its best done on an unsharpened file, a sharpened file can be used for printout, web etc. Also depends on the paper type you might print on, over sharpened images look bad on gloss surfaces, textured matte papers can benefit from over sharpened files in that it enhances textural quality, always good practice to keep a file that has not been sharpened, and universal in use. Hope that clarifies for you Simon
