I think that some have grasped the theory of Contrast grading and others not as yet, its not reliant on particular plug ins or software to work. However as with every concept there is a leaning curve[pardon the pun]. You read and study how its done whether it be in PS or not, then learn how to put into practice the methods shown in your own PP software. I have shown, as often requested, how I edit, I use PS.

Generic
Curves, levels, USM are all Generic to all software, all plugins use the power of the software there pluged into to work. So without imagefactory, if it will not work in your PP software, curves will do the same adjustment. If you can not use Crispimage Pro, USM will give a similar effect, if you cant use Pixel genius in your PP, you can compromise, adding and lowering exposure can be done in any PP software, as for contrast masking there are countless articles on the net on how to do it, Luminance landscapes gives a good tutorial on that.

All methods of doing something and not just photography, are ideas, they have to be learnt, modified etc, to suit individual tastes and vision, but what is important is the concept, putting into practice what has been learnt.

Contrast Grading has its roots firmly in place with photography, it will never go out of date, tried, tested and lots of testimonials from the past on show, in books, to prove that.

Its been said that there are 10 different ways to achieve the same effect in PS, but the outcome will be the same, its a magic of technology but not magic in the sense of what it does, it does what was done in the wet dark room to produce the same effects and imagery, it cant be any different, if it was i would still be brewing the chemicalsemoticon
