Adjustments layers

In CS4 we are encouraged to use adjustment layers rather than simply adjustments from te drop down menu

Adjustment layers are more versatile

Is it possible to use adjustment layyers instead then, i.e. will the workflow work just as well. I presume you'd have to swap the white mask that comes wit an adjustment layer to a black mask but otherwise it's the same process isnt it?

As long as you follow the [here i go again emoticon]the basics of Contrast grading it does not matter how or what you use to alter tones, if you want to use adjustment layers that is fine as long as there is a way , which there is , by masking, to paint contrast where required to get a full tonal range. You can do the same adjustment in PS 10 different ways to achieve the same affect, the roads different but the destination is the same.

So YES adjustment layers will work and not spoil the workflow, don't matter what you use as long as the end result achieve what your after and that is an image that has full grey scale from 0 to 255.

In the tutorial it has to be remembered that the conversion of the viaduct WAS done using adjustment layers, using plugins, as long as there under a mask and can be applied, the adjustment to tones can be made, therefore they are in effect adjustment layers
