Okay folks, I know most on here are Canon users with a sprinkling of Nikon ... so how often do you clean your sensor?

Reason I ask is that there is a little thread going on http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5053

Now I dont know how important sensor cleaning is to you but in reviewing equipment you may wish to consider an Olympus as your next camera system if it is...

I've had my Canon nearly 18 months, change lenses often and have resisted the temptaion to clean the sensor so far.

I bought it new with 3 blobs which show on every exposure but I know them like friends. If I get down to f22 well hell, it's like the dogs dandruff; I suppose I'll have to clean it soon but when I last went to do it the cleaner fluid was empty. I suppose I should re-order?

Well my 1DMK3 of which I have used extensively for two years did get a little dirty, the sensor cleaning system works to a degree but not totally, the cleaning system deff works quite well but not absolute, a few gobs of muck don't bother me, quick to clean up in PS, its when they get really bad and then becomes a pain in the bottom.

Buy an Olympus, OK any one want to buy some Canon gear

Well, I have had my Canon 20D since mid 2005, have travelled a lot with it and inevitably swapped lenses quite frequently. I have carried out a 'wet-swab' clean just the once.

In March last year I bought a 5D and again, this has had frequent lens changes and one of the lenses, the EF 100-400mm is supposed to be a 'dust-pump' (according to some Canon forums) due to the push-pull zoom system. All I have done on the 5D is used a Rocket Blaster a couple of times, more as a precautionary move than any real need.

So based purely on my own experiences, the problem of sensor dust and the need for vibrating sensors etc seems to be somewhat overstated. Of course, YMMV!
