Alien Skin Exposure 2

This is another great Plugin, it works for colour as well as mono conversion.

For Intel Mac users that cant use imagefactory B&W PRO, this is a great alternative in the Contrast Grading method.

Unlike B&W PRO where you have infinite control over filter and contrast, Alien Skin provides some excellent presets to start with. I find the best way to work is use the filter presets to get a good mono file, then apply different presets selectively on the image for contrast adjustment, the trick with this plugin is then to fine tune the master mono using the curve control, there are 4 sliders for

contrast
shadows
highlights
mid tones

each one works independently from the others or you can mix and match, very powerful tool to use.

If you have my CG tutorial you can use Alien Skin Exposue 2 just as well as B&w PRO to convert to mono, there's lots more in the dialogue box, why not check it out , it comes at the very top of my list as a good tool and not gimmicky in any way, want a film like finish to your images, just like B&W pro this does the job
