Mac'd Out

Is the new iMac a good tool?

I should say so! Bought Mine on Friday, spent yesterday transferring pictures, loading software, upgrading to CS4, transferring presets etc. (Have to say I'm pleased and surprised how easily it went and all done in a day.

I've had a play with a few images and the speed of the iMac (only the basic model) is staggering compared with my old iMac. In addition CS4 is a huge step forward and does not seem as hard to get into the basics as I feared.

As for dust bunnies; no more scrolling the screen and hunting them down, with the 27" screen they sit there waving at you

Re: Mac'd Out

Hi

My previous m/c was an iMac G5 with 2.5 gig RAM running OSX 0.4.11 on a 2.1 GHz processor

The new one has a 3.06 GHz Intel dual core processor, 4 gig of RAM and a 1TB hard drive. running OSX 10.6.1 (snow leapard).

The old M/c ran photoshop CS2 (it could not run CS4 - incompatible) and the upgrade is CS4.

The screen is just wonderful. I used to scroll round and round the old screen looking for dust bunnies (esp. in Lightroom were I had a viewable screen with between the menu bars of 25 c.m. On the new one that increases to 46.5 cm which is 1:1 viewing of my 1Dsmk3 files!

And one more thing.... the new iMac has an SD card reader in the side, by the CD slot!

Re: Mac'd Out

cool - that screen is very tempting

I run CS4 on 10.4.11 so I dont understand why you couldnt have on your old mac??

I was thinking of waiting til next years upgrades to the desktop range but a 27" screen for that money plus a new mac included sounds very tempting if the speed differenmce is that good!
