Ilford~Harman

I said that I would try and set up a competition with a company that would support us, well, Ilford~Harman could well be the one.

 http://www.ilfordphoto.com/home.asp

I have received an email from there Marketing, they have expressed interest in a quarterly competition, they would judge and give prizes.

Now It would be for prints only, they would have to be submitted to them for judging, the question I need to ask all on here is would you be prepared to enter and send prints, it would be no good if at the end of a quarter only 3 prints are sent etc, we need members to enter this.

This is a big deal for a little forum like us that a company of its size and reputation should express interest, it would be great for the forum and also might get a more members printing there own work, one of the most rewarding areas of our hobby i must add.

Keep in mind this is all at an early stage, but I would like feedback as to how many would actualy enter and give it a go.

If you have any questions regarding this please post them here for all to read

Martin

I would take part, absolutely! It would have to be on Ilford paper, or no? The size of the print I guess would also be another question.....

Great Info Martin!

Mike, I have posed the question to them regarding which paper, I also pointed out that not all members print there own so are in the hands of the labs and have no choice, hopefully the would accept any type of paper to open it to more entrants, but would also understand if they stipulated only there papers can be submitted, will await there reply

Martin

might be just the thing to get me actually printing my stuff out!

Have you checked whether they expect to use the pics for their marketing and what the copyright, T+Cs etc will be?

Count me in for this one, Martin. Are there any minimum or maximum print size requirements?

Hi Martin,

It's a great idea and I certainly hope it'll work but to be totally honest with you I have to start printing my images from zero. I intend to do so but it'll take me time to try and master it.
Beside that, for me it's already a struggle to enter the monthly competition (apparently this goes for more beginners like me emoticon )
So; Yes I would love to try and participate but can only see me do this after mastering much more photographic and printing skills..
I can't really say but this might well take me quite some time from now..
I do hope enough mebers will participate, this might prove to be a great boost for the forum, so good luck ! Leon

Thanks for your feedback, as regards sizes, marketing, copyright etc, I really cant comment at the moment, as said previously its all at talking stage with them, the desired effect of this is apparent from your replies to try printing. will post more info when I get it

Not to worry Leon, but i am sure after Monday you will be far more proficiant, and have a greater undersatnding of what is needed from the image to print

Re: Ilford~Harman

Hi Martin,

This would be fantastic for the forum and I would love to think I would enter.

I don't have the ability to print my own images to a good enough standard to enter a competition, my printer is frankly crap. So I suppose the issue of what paper would be allowed is a key answer before I could commit to entering. I would like to enter though as I have not really considered printing when I have been working on my images previously - concentrating on how they look on-line.

I will watch this with interest.

Regards

Hugh
