Have you ever read The Island of the Day Before by Umberto Eco? A shipwrecked sailor wakes up floating on a raft and bumping against an unknown ship. There is one other on the ship. In one direction is the open sea and in the other is an island. As one of them tries to get to the island, he disappears. The ship, it turns out, is stranded on the International Date Line and when he swims towards the island, which is east of the ship, he loses 24 hours. When he swims back, he regains that 24 hours. When he swims east he disappears as he crosses the line and then reappears as he swims back westward. This is all germaine to Leads' issues with GMT and Zulu time.
