Bourbon info...
Alright dudes, so I've been reading a lot abut bourbons over the past few weeks, since Thanksgiving when I bought myself Wild Turkey 101 as a treat and it tasted like ass. I know I'm going to have to continue experiment with flavors because they are just as vast and varied as beer and you know from drinking beer that you gotta try a lot to find your beer. Right?
So I found this place:
Lots of info about distillers and bourbon...
I posted it ahile back but I can't remember the thread. Scuff would be interested to know that the first Bulleit I tasted and why I'm probably still enamored with it is because it was made with a high rye content but it has recently been bottled by a different distillery than the original Four Roses distillery. The bottle I gave my old man 6 years ago was probably the first taste I had of it last Christmas.
Well, this site has a ton of info, but you have to search sort of blindly. Anyway it gives you the distillery histories: whats distilled where, for how long, how recipes have changed, blends... The whole deal very interesting.
The one I'm interested in right now is Four Roses Bourbon, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Yellow label fifth. Sounds interesting. Sells at $18/ bottle.

I don't know why you don't just cut to the chase and buy the Pikesville. You know you want to.
If you are drinking this dreck, why should I waste good scotch on your wino ass?
Kids. What are ya gonna do?

Re: Bourbon info...
you mixed it with soda first didn't you? that's chickenweed. wild turkey should only be ingested with the help of non filtered cigarettes or perhaps a rank cigar of greater ass like taste. that way you can really appreciate the 101 aspect of the bourbon. I have a bottle of my own lying around here somewhere, I've been using it off and on as an antiseptic.

Weed, just wondering, do you like mint julepes?
I heard they're famous on the horse races, is it true?

Re: Bourbon info...
Famous at the Kentucky Derby, Marmot. Mint Juleps are the drink of the race. I've never had one but one of these years whilst watching the Derby I might just have to do it.

Re: Bourbon info...
And no, NIF, I've never mixed it with soda. I started drinking it neat like a real man should, but now I put most of what I drink on the rocks. I had three or four Bookers at a bar before the Ravens yesterday and chased it ocassionally with a coke. I think I went thru a coke and maybe a holf over the couple of hours at the bar. I used to rely on it a little more but I'm pretty much to the point of being able to enjoy the drink for the sake of the drink.
The 101 was just a little harsh, tho. I think it was the brand more than the proof, tho. I really like some of the higher proofs like Booker's at 126 and Knob Creek at 100 proof. But I really like the Wild Turkey Rye which is 90 proof. That's some good stuff.

Re: Bourbon info...
I had mint juleps at Peerce's Plantation one year, while we watched the Derby, Josephine and I. Lots of crushed ice, some bourbon and other ingedients, and fresh mint. Not sure it isn't a gay drink, though it tasted good.
Are you adding ice to offset the higher proof?

Re: Bourbon info...
Nah, I actually like the bourbon better before it gets all watered down but I like the coolness factor to it. Plus, the bourbon goes a little farther...
