My big geek hobbie

Well dudes perhaps the geekiest thing I have become a part of except for being part of an enternet Lebowski fan club is now taking hold.....I have been collecting old comic books. My sales guy got me into it and it has become a bit of an obsession. I dont collect them to read the cool storys but for the investment value. I have been amazed at how much money you can make off these things.

Any of you dudes have any old comic books laying around, or know anybody who dose?

Careful with that stuff, man. The bottom fell outta that market about 10 years ago. Be very careful and don't trust internet valuations...

The market for new comics fell out in the 80's. The old stuff dose not do down in value. Once people realized how much money the old ones were worth they started buying up all then new stuff thinking in 20 years it would be worth a ton but since there were so many of them bought they are not worth ****. The real motherload would be to find a colection in someones basment of 1940-1970 comics.

I just bought a Fantastic four #16 off ebay for $700.00. I have sent it off to get it pressed and graded. I think it will come back at about a 9.2. It also happens to be a Marvel file copy wich makes it worth more money, it is called a pedigread comic. A pedigree copy of the same book just sold at auction last month for $5,500.00. It was a 9.4 and the third highest graded copy in existance. I will try and sell mine for about $4,000.00 once it is graded and sealed.

I have about 600 comic books, most from the 80's! I bought them to read the ****ers AND as an investment. Just got them from the folks' basement. Gonna go through them someday, and see what they're worth Kinda funny, how they're all individually wrapped in their plastic covers with cardboard backs. I thought they'd be worth millions when I was 14.....

Always the doubter... Why would a guy on ebay sell a comic worth $4000 for $700 unless he knows it really ain't even worth $700. BTW, more power to you dude. But I've been cursed with the "if it looks like easy money, I'll give it a try gene." Most times, luckily, I end up not losing anything except the dough invested in the hair brained scheme. emoticon
