Re: R.I.P. Soupy...
I remember some tv show with him from when I was a kid. It was in reruns but it didn't last. They started with Gilligan's Island, Gomer Pyle, Get Smart, and the Brady Bunch after a short time.
I remember, tho, that Howard Stern had some kind of feud with him. After he was hired in New York, they brought Soupy in on an earlier show, or the time slot he was supposed to have originally. Lead to some bruhaha and since Soupy wasn't too great on the radio, Howard eventually got what he had been promised.
I think they interviewed Soupy on one of Howard's "History of Howard Stern" segments. Seemed like a nice guy.

Re: R.I.P. Soupy...
Yes, he was the Howdy Doody guy. I watched him all the time, as did OD, I'm sure. He had Howdy, of course, Flub-A-Dub, Claribell the clown (spooky), Princess Summerfallwinterspring and a whole bunch more. The kids sat in a set of bleachers call the "Peanut Gallery" and the show always opened with Buffalo Bob saying," Hey, kids, what time is it?" and the kids, yours truly included, would shout back, "It's Howdy Doody time. Yayyyyyy."
Soupy came along much later, of course but still . . .he was funny.
