Re: conciensious objector
... thank you both for your explanations. I did not know that. I thought poor folks in your country were left all alone when they got sick.
****ing stereotypes, man. In Europe most people think that there's no medical care at all for the poor in the US. But if the idea is to fund it the way you told me, I too lift a middle finger.

Re: conciensious objector
TOE FOR SHERIFF!!
Donnelly, my brother was a homelss drunk. Well, he still is but he's in Key west now. Anyway, he got an infection so bad he couldn't walk. Some samaritan dropped him off at the emergency room of the local hospital. He spent 2 weeks (2 weeks!!!) in a hospital room getting taken care of. When he left, he had meds, new ID and they got together and gave him some money and food. I don't know what 2 weeks in the hosptal cost but they took care of him, fed him, cleaned him up, dried him out and sent him on his way with a little pat on the ass and a wink and a smile. I have great health care and even when I had a total hip replacement I only got 3 days in there. Those of us in the US who work and pay taxes are subsidizing the health care of those who don't have any. Here, every mother's son is entitled to that level of care which is necessary to make them well, even if they have no money.
We are tired of working to support those who do not and who do not even try. **** 'em. I pay a ton of taxes to the government and I am tired as hell of doing it, especially when my elected representatives don't represent me. **** them all, the short and the fat and the tall. I am voting against every incumbent I can.

Re: conciensious objector
That was actually a big rallying point of the protest. 2010 vote them out. It is a bad time to be an encumbent.

Re: conciensious objector
I know I'm in the minority here, dudes, but what is wrong with regualting the entire industry. It's easy to talk about how you're affected, but what is wrong with asking questions about the prices? Also, the spin says that the cost of socialized health care pales in comparison to the cost of the "wars" we're fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. Give me a good reason why we're over there. I think we're being duped, on both fronts.

Re: conciensious objector
Slack makes a good point. The cost of health care is running consitently more than twice the level of inflation. That tells me that somebody is making a ****ing boatload of money. Docs will tell you it's because they have to pay high insurance premiums. Drug companies will tell you it's because of their high research costs. Truth is that docs used to make about twice what the average schmo made, now it's more like five times. Hospitals are charging insane amounts for bedspace. Why aren't hotel prices going up the same amount?
Everything points to an industry out of control, but I'm thinking that they know exactly what they're doing. The last thing they want is any accountability because there is no defense for the cost escallation.
I got a nephew about three years out of med school with less school than I have making about 3 times what I make. Maybe "for-profit" and "health care" should not go in the same sentence.
I'm a libertarian in most matters, but it doesn't seem like this particular facet of our ****ing economy has any intention of not gouging the fearful public for as much as they can get.

Re: conciensious objector
I agree that it does need an overhaul but with socialized medicine is going to costs tons of money. And Nobody can compete against the government if they have their option available to people. Unlimited funds available who can compete for business?
Why not open it up so you can buy insurance from other states? Right now in NY we can only get insurance from 3 companies.
