Things to teach your kids that our parents didn't teach us
1. You will only live 100 years or so. As you get older, you will find that foods that you once thought were "yucky" are some of the best things in the world you can eat. The sooner you figure this out, the more of the good food you will be able to eat. So if you see a lot of older people eating something and saying how good it is, TRY SOME.

Breakfast this morning. All kinds of weird **** that no kid would eat but tasted ****ing great. 8 kinds of smoked fish. Cheese that could walk back to your table by itself. Melon and procshuto. That may be the single best taste combination on earth.

****ing German food is the best. We have a kick ass German place right down the road from my house and they serve huge ****ing beers. Maybe that is what we should do when you are here.

Re: Things to teach your kids that our parents didn't teach us
Everyplace Andrew Zimmern goes he has some interpretation of head cheese. My old man loves the stuff but I've never been able to even try it. But as a result of this thread I will try it. There's a German Deli at the end of the road that 3 generations of my family has loved.

Re: Things to teach your kids that our parents didn't teach us
I do try the more exotic things on the menu when we dine out. Game meats, pate, game birds. Quail stuffed with duck sausage pate was especially delicious. I'll try just about anything. Octopus was very good too and surprisingly meaty as opposed to "squidy" like calamari.

"Bait-y" is the preferred nomenclature.
Speaking of which, the dude showed up a couple of months back then promptly fell off the earth again.

Re: Things to teach your kids that our parents didn't teach us
Weed grilled a turducken last night for his parents and Josefina and me. A novel concept of stuffing birds, it's a chicken stuffed in a duck stuffed in a turkey with a layer of stuffing in betwwen them. This particular stuffing was spiced with chorizo sausage. It was superbly done to a turn by the Master Chef hisself and with it we had black beans, carrots, a salad with hearts of palm and strawberries and pecans and a blush wine vinaigrette and a gravy. Dessert was a sweet Snicker Salad, which is a Snickers Bar chopped up in vanilla pudding with whipped cream stirred in and sliced Granny Smith apples. Sierra Nevada Extra IPA Torpedo was glassed and a very nice addition. There were breaded sausages, ham rolled in cream cheese, a spicy blend of olives and onions in a cream cheese blend with a rose tint to it in a wrap sliced into thin pinwheels, and garlic cloves grilled in olive oil.
A very nice, tasty gourmet meal accompanied by good company and good conversation. You shoulda been there.
