Re: Guns

My advice for anyone wanting a handgun for self defense is to buy a double-action revolver. Why a revolver? Because you don't have all the safeties and bull**** that a semiautomatic does. Why a double-action? Simple...pull the trigger and it goes bang. No ****ing of the hammer...just pull the trigger.

Also, buy the caliber of gun that bests suit the user. Don't buy a big caliber gun for a little lady. And train her to aim at the body...fire...step forward...fire...step forward...fire...etc., until the gun is empty.

Finally, when the police arrive, the only words out of her mouth should be, "He tried to rape me."

That got me to chuckle.

And yes sound advice from Roses.

Now that I have had our shot gun for a while the wife is talking about wanting to go shoting. I knew she would come around.

I didn't push her towards it. It's just that ALL of my friends own many guns and they like to use them. Next step is to take her fishing. I will make an eastern shore redneck out of her yet.

****ing halarious, OD.

Roses speaks truth. Nothing more reliable than a good old revolver. I can't remember who said the .38 was too small earlier in the thread, but I disagree wholeheartedly. Get a +P load and it'll put anyone on the ass. I especially love the S&W Airweight & Airlight.

This will be my next gun:

Re: Guns

That was me about the .38 and I stand by it. It's a weak caliber even in +P compared to a 9mm. And while it will put you on your ass, it's only good if you can hit something. Even the cops have thrown them over.
I also stand by my choice of a scattergun as a home defense weapon. It's a rare woman, or man for that matter, who can be calm enough in the face of an attacker or a burglar to be steady and aim and squeze that trigger quckly enough and accurately enough. My cut-down 12 gauge pump is easily carried, easily pointed and easily fired and can take down more than one person. All she has to do is point and shoot, like a ****ing camera.

You can keep those handguns for home defense. Out of curiosity, what's the numbers on a .38? Anybody know? Muzzle velocity? Recoil factor? Soft nose versus wad cutter? Might be fun to find out.
